**Job summary**:
We are looking for an enthusiastic SEO to join our small team to help design and deliver an exciting and new piece of work.

The Office for Local Government (Oflog) was established last year, and our vision is to help make local government even better. Our objectives are
- inform - to increase understanding - among citizens, civil society, central government and local government itself - about data on the performance of local authorities
- warn - to help identify local authorities that are at risk of serious failure but have not raised the alarm themselves
- support - to support local government to improve performance, productivity, and value for money: championing best practice, improving data capability and rationalising a complex data landscape.

In this job you will have the opportunity to shape a new workstream in the “inform” space. You will play an important role to get more people - residents, journalists, councillors, everyone - engaged and enthused about the work of councils. You will design activity that looks at how the public understands, interacts with and holds local government to account.

This work will be multi-discipline, so you will get an insight into and work closely with a range of different teams who different roles, including: policy, communications and marketing, analysis and insight and digital delivery. **Job description**:
Key responsibilities
- Lead the engagement strategy for the programme - you will build relationships, organise and attend meetings with key external stakeholders to develop and build our evidence base
- Lead the project management and governance function for the workstream - you will plan ahead, scope out well-informed reports and brief seniors on progress
- Support our social and user research ambitions. We plan to conduct public surveys and focus groups - you will have a key role in thinking through the questions and evidence we want to gather and participate in facilitating events
- Develop strong knowledge about the local government sector, the misuse of information policy landscape, and the digital/website design profession

As this is a new workstream, the tasks and requirements in this role may flex and change over time. You will have considerable scope to influence and design your own role based on your interests.

You will also have the opportunity to help develop Oflog’s newly emerging culture and environment; we encourage all colleagues to play a role in the growth and development of Oflog, and bring about the work ethos they want to see.

**Person specification**:
We are looking for someone who can
- Communicate and collaborate confidently - you enjoy working with large groups of people, and you are willing to lead strands of work that cut across multiple teams and professions
- Think logically and rigorously about a variety of challenges - you enjoy researching issues, gathering evidence and identifying novel and creative solutions
- Operate as a self-starter with a willingness to explore and learn; you are eager to develop your skills and knowledge in policy, communications, social research and digital platforms
- Think and look strategically across the work programme to plan and prioritise work. You are organised and enjoy horizon scanning
- Most importantly, you will be interested in local government and thinking about how we can get the public more interested and engaged with councils
