**Molecular Therapy Advanced Specialist**

**Job Summary**

You will be part of the quality control team. Your role will have a direct impact on the Clinical Biotechnology Centres (CBC), Cellular and Molecular Therapies functions ability to produce and release gene therapy products for clinical trials.

**Main duties of the job**

In this role you will provide day to day supervision for several members of staff. Your responsibilities will include:

- Analysing, interpreting, validating and reporting the results of routine and complex investigations, working at the level of responsibility and conduct required of an experienced Senior Scientist.
- Leading in the management of equipment throughout its life cycle from validation, to calibration and maintenance all the way through to decommissioning of unwanted equipment.
- Analysing and performing complex testing of advanced molecular therapy products e.g. gene therapy, recombinant proteins, cell-based products using complex scientific equipment such as bioreactors, analytical equipment and microbiology analysis methods. Maintain equipment to the required standards.
- Leading on continuous improvement events within the department, with the support of laboratory personnel.
- Becoming the designated owner of the training matrix and organise training to updates within the department
- Receiving and communicating highly complex and specialist advice to/from internal and external scientists, clinicians, other staff on for example the significance of test results.
- Ensuring products meet all specifications necessary for patient safety and therapeutic use according to internal and external quality requirements and operating within the boundaries of good manufacturing and laboratory practice.

**About You**

**Experience and Knowledge**
- In depth knowledge of molecular biology or a complementary science
- High level of expertise and competency in molecular biology or complementary science area
- In depth knowledge of the standards of Good Manufacturing Practice and other relevant or statutory guidelines
- Experience of working in a molecular or testing laboratory performing molecular analysis
- Expertise in relevant research and development projects

**Qualifications and Training**
- MSc or equivalent in cell and molecular therapies or a relevant science **OR**:

- Equivalent specialist knowledge and experience gained by examination of a professional body **OR** extensive relevant experience **OR**:

- Completion of a formal post-graduate training programme together with in service experience
