Canterbury, United Kingdom Kent and Medway NHS and Social Care Partnership Trust Full time

**Perinatal Mental Health Community Service (PMHCS)**:
The peer support practitioner (PSP) role has been developed specifically for people who have personal lived experience of perinatal mental ill health and of accessing mental health services to achieve recovery. Through sharing wisdom from their own experiences and recovery, peer support practitioner will inspire hope and belief that recovery is possible in others. We are seeking to recruit 1 x part time (0.6 WTE / 3 days per week) enthusiastic, dedicated and motivated PSP to join our supportive and passionate team and work within this exciting specialist service. The post will primarily cover the locality of East Kent, however there may also be an expectation to work across the county on occasions. The ability to travel in own transport is essential.

As an integral and highly valued member of the multi-disciplinary team, the PSP will provide formalised peer support and practical assistance to patients in order to work with them to regain control over their lives and their own unique recovery process. Within a relationship of reciprocity, they will journey with patients to promote choice, self-determination and opportunities for the fulfilment of individually identified goals, working with people towards gaining greater independence and in managing their own health and wellbeing.

The PSP will act as a recovery champion within the team and an ambassador of recovery for the Trust with external agencies and partner organisations. As a core member of the multidisciplinary team, the PSP will work alongside an agreed number of patients on a 1:1 and/or group basis.

The PSP will take a lead role in embedding recovery values within the service setting in which they work with other PSP colleagues. Reporting directly to the senior staff and under the professional supervision of the Peer Support Practitioner Lead, the PSP will be responsible for the delivery of peer support interventions as agreed within the peer relationship.

Come and work with us in the Garden of England where we combine exceptional professional development opportunities with a tremendous quality of life.

We are Kent and Medway NHS and Social Care Partnership Trust (KMPT), providing mental health, learning disability and specialist services, serving 1.8 million people across the county.

The Trust (rated Good overall by the CQC and Outstanding for care) has 3,283 staff working in 66 buildings across 33 locations, covering an area of 1,450 square miles.

You will be joining friendly, passionate colleagues, rich in their diversity, who are committed to providing excellent care to our service users and their loved ones.

The nature of our work attracts kindness and compassion as standard and everyone from our cleaners and porters to the chief executive and chairman are recognised as playing a vital role in providing an exemplary service.

Establish a supportive and respectful relationship with peers and patients.

Have ‘lived experience’ of perinatal mental ill health and have accessed mental health services to achieve a full recovery and be a vital source of support to other women and birthing people in their own mental health recovery; providing them with tailored support based on their individual needs.

With supervision from qualified staff, assist those receiving care from the service to establish greater control over their lives; help to identify aspects of life that give meaning, hope, value and purpose whilst recognising that an individual’s recovery is a distinct and deeply personal process.

Under supervision from qualified staff, provide practical, individual support to those within the service using their own lived experience and role modelling to enhance the therapeutic relationship and enable women to achieve their individual recovery goals.
