We are currently looking for a dynamic Assistant Director of Studies based at our Manchester Communicate School. It is an exciting time to become an integral part of our team as we go through a period of rapid growth.

**Main purpose of job**:The role of the Assistant Director of Studies (ADoS) is to provide vital academic support to the Director of Studies (DoS) and to the rest of the teaching team. Working alongside the DoS, the ADoS will ensure the delivery of excellent customer service and academic quality by conducting observations and feedback sessions, giving academic advice to teachers and advising on improving current services or introducing new ones. The ADoS will also be expected to teach their own engaging and well-planned classes and provide cover for teachers when necessary.

**Academic Support**:

- Give advice and guidance to other teachers concerning language, classroom matters, methodology or any other academic issues which might arise.
- Provide positive encouragement to all new and existing members of the teaching staff and to ensure that they are aware of Malvern House Group’s teaching standards.
- Oversee training and CPD:

- Conduct new teacher induction.
- Provide help and training to less experienced team members when necessary.
- To allow new/inexperienced teachers to observe part/whole lessons where required.
- Request further training from the Director of Studies/Academic Director at any time. Request CPD when needed.
- Be responsible for the scheduling of the monthly internal inset sessions for the teaching staff.
- Plan and conduct regular workshops for groups of teachers. These workshops are usually 45-60 minutes long and focus on practical language or classroom methodology/procedures.
- Ensure that workshops are arranged to encourage maximum participation (particularly for new/inexperienced staff members).
- Conduct observations:

- Conduct formal observation and feedback sessions. Observations are normally 60 minutes long and feedback sessions 20-40 minutes long. The teacher will be expected to fill in a Malvern House Lesson Evaluation Form for each observation and base their feedback on the form.
- Conduct series of informal developmental observations and feedback sessions to help teachers having difficulties. These series are usually 3-5 sessions long. Brief records are kept, in order to aid teacher development.

**Teaching**:

- You will normally be expected to teach your own regular classes in addition to academic support work (typically 20 hours a week contact plus prep time at the discretion of the DoS)
- To maintain exceptional standards in the classroom and to act as an example to all other teachers.

- Cover teaching:

- In the event of sickness/emergency holiday our priority must be to cover lessons (Cancellation should be the very last option). In the event of emergency cover, the Director of Studies will try to find cover from within the teaching staff (including other centre staff). If this fails, the Assistant Director of Studies will be responsible for teaching the class if not already scheduled to teach.

**Meetings**:

- Regularly attend Academic Team meetings to discuss school-wide academic issues. These meetings must have minutes recorded.
- Liaise with Student Services Team and reception staff re: complaints/issues. Weekly site meetings should be attended.

**Teaching Materials**:

- Help with the preparation and administration of academic materials (such as tests, syllabi and teacher’s guides) and other materials important to Malvern House’s academic quality (such as the student survey).
- Responsible for the inventory of the current materials and ordering new materials when necessary, as agreed by the DoS.
- Acquire feedback from the teachers regarding new materials used.

**Quality Assurance**:

- Administer the student survey and feedback questionnaires and ensuring the completion rates are maximised each time. You should work with the Senior Teachers and Student Services Team to achieve this.
