**Senior Engineer Packaging Development**

**Job**

The Senior Engineer Packaging Development is an important role within the Delivery System 2 organisation (DS2). It is responsible for insight development, design, development and translation of packaging innovations for growth of favourites, enhanced favouritesand the adjacency areas. This role will be part of a team that will provide deep technical packaging and process understanding and will work with lead markets, Marketing, Operations, Commercial and consumer research agencies to develop Packaging from conceptto finished goods to drive innovation to develop insights to drive innovation. The incumbent will on a continual basis develop a range of Consumer relevant, value added packaging with specific focus on the DS2 innovation area. They will be responsible forleading packaging process development activities and is accountable for the execution of the programs and work streams allocated by the DS2 innovation teams.
- Pay: £34 ph PAYE.
- Hybrid working: 2 days on site per week.

**Key Responsibilities.**
- Responsible for the design, development and translation of new and innovative packaging concepts. To develop consumer relevant value added packs, ensuring that the pack design meets the global consumer insights and are fitting the business strategy andneeds with a high quality Packaging in a timely and cost effective way is the key output form this role.
- Responsible for leading packaging development activities and is accountable for the execution of the allocated programs and work streams to bring project through to commercialisation
- Ensures that the packaging development for extending core, and breakthrough product designs are delivered for the brands and that they are designed to meet the brand KQA's.
- They creates the packaging specifications to deliver the desirable KQA's via robust risk management and delivery of shopper, customer and supply chain requirements.
- Ensures that the packaging development process is carried out such that time lines are met to market products.
- Ensures that the packaging specifications are as accurate as possible to ensure correct costing.
- Ensures that Packaging quality and Manufacturing quality performance measures standards and corrective actions are specified for each new and current packaging to ensure performance at the required level for all manufactured products
- Works with cross-functional teams in a design thinking way of working to deliver new and novel innovation for the brand.
- Works with the Global Packaging teams to help to develop technology required by the DS2 innovation team
- To be fully knowledgeable on consumer profiles, brand frameworks, major competitors, markets, process, packaging, quality and Remains abreast of new developments in food technologies, packaging, design, category trends and related fields
- Initiate and evaluate pilot line trials during development for new Packaging/varieties when existing production lines are not available. This will involve close co-operation with the Factory Innovation teams.
- Develop suppliers: Working with Commercial to develop both material and creative design suppliers to
- To provide input and be guardian of relevant packaging key business data (e.g., FEF, Pack KQA, Project plans etc.) Quest stage gate responsibility tbc.
- To manage Intellectual Property risks & opportunities derived from projects proactively.
- Able to handle high profile and complex projects at the same time. Also able to start-up a project from their own insights / initiative.
- Value Creation: Initiate consumer acceptance research, cost savings and quality improvement activities on current and future brands and challenge the business with ideas for new Packaging.
- Uses FEF to Identify the Viability and Feasibility of the Desirable concepts delivered within the DS2 projects and programs.

**Education & Professional Qualification**

Graduate of University education in Packaging Engineering or Packaging Science or Mechanical Engineering or other science-based degree and relevant work experience.

Preferred: In addition to the minimum requirements, a master's degree in engineering, chemical engineering or a technical area including chemistry, or food science would be preferred.

**Knowledge/Experience**
- Sound knowledge in Packaging constructions, materials and machine interaction
- Sound experience within the snackfood/food industry, with packaging development experience within an FMCG food company.
- Demonstrated ability of packaging development, including 1st wraps and overwraps, cartons, and cases expertise.
- Good knowledge covering food safety and food hygiene programs, packaging, printing and legislation and raw material
- Good understanding of packaging sciences, packaging development, Packaging legislation and laws, Food processing and production knowledge.
