**Ibk is a community based, not-for-profit social enterprise with over 20 years’ experience of providing Direct Payment Support to families, children and adults of all ages with a range of needs. We run a successful befriending service, providing bespoke support to young people under 18 to lead happy and independent lives.**

IBK are in the process of building a group of enthusiastic and empathetic befrienders to support young people with disabilities in the area of Sheffield.

**What is a befriender?**

Being a befriender involves spending 1:1 time with a young person to develop their self esteem and independence skills.. As well as joining them with their hobbies and interests, this might include spending time together at home, going to a club or group together or perusing a hobby out in the community.

Becoming a befriender is a rewarding role. It will aid the young person to increase their confidence in order to become the person who they want to be and ease the sense of loneliness that these people may be feeling.

You will be matched with a young person based on your skills and experience. Alongside your personality, hobbies and interests. The individual you will be helping could have a variety of needs including learning difficulties and mental health challenges. Some may also have a neurodiversity.

**Person Specification**:
Essential
- Experience of working with young people
- Willing to learn from the young person and their family
- Be friendly and reliable
- Maintain confidentiality
- Be respectful in the family home
- Be creative in your personal approach
- Have a genuine desire to enhance the young person’s life and boost their self confidence in social situations

Desirable
- An understanding and experience of the nature of this type of support work
- A car driver with use of a car

Hours

8-12 hours p/w depending on the young person you work with.

Hours can be flexible but will often working around school times and so may be afternoons/ evenings and/ or at the weekend.

**PLEASE NOTE** There may be immediate work for some befrienders but for others you may be placed on a database and contacted when we receive a referral for a young person we feel you are a good match for.

**Job Types**: Part-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 6-18 months

Pay: £12.00 per hour

Expected hours: 6 - 12 per week

Schedule:

- Day shift
- Weekend availability
