Cheltenham, United Kingdom Secret Intelligence Service Full time

Department 1- Admin- Location(s) 1- Cheltenham, Central London, Manchester- Contract Type 1- Permanent- Hours of Work 1- Full-time and part-time opportunities (flexible working hours available)- Salary 1- £27,751 - £30,024 (dependant on location)- Job description 1**Working pattern**: we support part-time, full-time, compressed hours and job share, we’re highly committed to offering remote working across the organisation, however our ability to do this is dependent on role requirement and business need.

**About Us**

MI5 keeps the country safe from serious threats like terrorism and attempts by states to harm the UK, its people and way of life. We carry out investigations by obtaining, analysing, and assessing intelligence, and then work with a range of partners including MI6 and GCHQ to disrupt threats. Through our protective security arm, we provide advice and guidance to government, businesses, and other organisations about how to keep themselves safe. A role in MI5 means you’ll do unique and challenging work in a supportive and encouraging environment, making a real difference to UK national security.

**The Role**

As a Senior Admin Officer deployed in vetting, you’ll work as part of a large, multi-skilled research team, delivering analysis to support the vetting process across the UK’s Intelligence Services. It’s a role where, once fully trained, you’ll work with a high degree of autonomy and use your own judgement. You’ll be working in a unique and challenging environment with diverse people and everything you do will support an increasingly diverse and flexible workforce - and the safety of the UK.

Vetting and what we do is vitally important because it ensures that the people who have access to some of the UK’s most sensitive information can be trusted. Everyone who works within the UK’s Intelligence Services goes through vetting, so it’s crucial that our decision making is evidence-based, accurate and consistent. That’s where you come in.

Day to day, you’ll complete research and analysis on a range of data that helps build a picture of someone’s suitability to hold security clearance. Using a variety of tools and methods, which we’ll train you in - will help you identify and assess information, spotting links between different pieces of data as you drive forward actionable outcomes. Once you’ve finished your analysis, you’ll write reports containing your findings. Whilst this role is uniquely complex and requires a level of sensitivity due to the nature of the work, your work will be used to support decision making by our vetting officers, and as such is hugely rewarding.

It's a fast-paced role, where you’ll need to have a keen eye for detail, be able to prioritise your workload independently, and meet strict deadlines. Whether you’re at the beginning of your career, returning to work after a break, or looking for a new challenge, this role is unique and requires a level of sensitivity due to the nature of the work, but you’ll be key in maintaining our integrity and trust throughout the security vetting process.

**About You**:
You’ll need two GCSEs (or equivalent) in maths and English Language at grades A*-C/9-4, or experience in an administrative role. You’ll be keen to learn, as this role includes an initial training period where you’ll be brought up to speed on our research and analysis techniques. You have great attention to detail, even when working to tight deadlines. You’re organised and able to manage your workload. Plus, you’re comfortable using your initiative and able to talk to a range of people.

We’re interested in what makes you, you. There’s not one ‘type’ of person that we’re looking for: whether you choose to work full time or part time, you’ll feel part of an inclusive, welcoming team where there’s plenty of support and training on offer. If you have a disability or long-term health condition, just let us know if you need any adjustments made during the recruitment process or if you have any questions about how we can support you once you’re in-role.

**Training and Development**:
We value and nurture talent, so we’re committed to helping you develop your skills and fulfil your potential by ensuring you get the training and support you need to succeed. When you join us, you’ll have a full induction and begin a formal training and mentoring period that usually lasts around three months. This will equip you with all the knowledge and skills to undertake the role.

**Rewards and Benefits**

You’ll receive a starting salary of £27,751 to £30,024 plus other benefits including:

- 25 Days Annual Leave automatically rising to 30 days after 5 years’ service and an additional 10.5 days public and privilege holidays
- Opportunities to be recognised through our employee performance scheme
- Personal Learning Budget
- Interest-free season ticket loan
- Excellent pension scheme
- Interest-free season ticket loan
