We have an exciting new opportunity to join our Engagement and Society team in Wellcome Connecting Science. You will work closely with the Associate Director on research-related activities, as well as with other team members on specific projects.

**About the role**:
We are seeking an enthusiastic social scientist with excellent project management skills, who is looking to develop their career in a research support role. You will support the Engagement and Society group in Wellcome Connecting Science, working closely with the Associate Director to lead the impact measurement work for the group, undertake literature reviews/searches, draft research publications and commentaries, and prepare conference presentations.

You will also provide extensive research project support, including drafting ethics approval documentation, and maintain oversight of budget(s), progress and the achievement of key milestones. Would suit someone who has just finished their PhD who is looking for research experience and research management before doing a post-doctoral position. Alternatively would suit an experienced researcher who is interested in supporting rather than leading research for 1 year.

You will work with researchers and administrators in the Engagement and Society team to ensure good information flow and identify any issues which require escalation. You are able to work from home as well as our office at the University of Cambridge (off Hills Road) and also at Wellcome Genome Campus in Hinxton.

You will be an excellent communicator who can contribute to policy briefings, blog posts and opinion pieces, working with the Connecting Science and Sanger Institute communication teams on specific projects as needed.

**Qualification**:

- A Masters degree in a relevant social sciences discipline eg sociology, psychology, genetic counselling, or anthropology, including knowledge and understanding of quantitative and qualitative research approaches and methodologies

**Skills and Attributes**:

- Experience of working in a scientific/academic environment with an interest in science, social science, and research
- Demonstrable project management experience, monitoring multiple workstreams, assessing and reporting progress, managing relationships
- Knowledge and understanding of the relationship between society and genetic and genomic science
- Excellent attention to detail and organisation skills needed to manage projects effectively
- Evidence of working independently and being proactive in solving problems, and using judgement to escalate specific matters
- Able to work effectively in a busy and dynamic environment
- Ability to develop effective working relationships, working flexibly and collaboratively
- Positive, open-minded with a flexible approach

- Salary in the region of: £38,433 to £46,504
- One year fixed term maternity cover
