**About the Role**:
The Wellcome Sanger Institute conducts cutting edge genomic research on an unprecedented scale and our Operations teams play a vital role in enabling and supporting our science.

The Human Genetics Programme and the Generative and Synthetic Genomics Programme are supported by a joint Operations team, and we are currently seeking a dynamic, collaborative and solutions-focused Research Manager to join our team, on a full time, permanent basis.

**Key responsibilities of the role**:

- Providing comprehensive operational and administrative support to the Head of Programme, Faculty and Associate Faculty members of both the Human Genetics and the Generative and Synthetic Genomics Programmes, enabling them to deliver their ambitious scientific goals.
- Managing Faculty's Research portfolios, this includes grant and budget management.
- Providing effective administrative support by obtaining, managing and maintaining appropriate ethical and legal approvals for collections of human or non-human material for research, specific to projects. Agreements include and not limited to materials transfer agreements, research collaboration agreements, data access agreements, confidentiality agreements.
- Working closely with the Scientific services representative (SSR) within the Scientific Operations team, to monitor progress, provide regular Demand forecasts, establish project priorities (in collaboration with the Team Lead - Human Genetics Project and Research Management), and ensure projects are being delivered in a timely manner.
- Adopting new project management tools within the team, such as Asana, Jira and others, which will enable the sharing of information via reporting tools, such as Tableau. This will enable the agreement of priorities for action, distribution of workload, overseeing progress, opportunities for risk, and issue avoidance.

**Essential Skills**:

- Previous scientific experience or qualification
- Previous experience of working in a science programme or equivalent environment
- Experience of producing, managing, and reporting on budgets
- Knowledge and understanding of scientific third party funding
- Exceptional organiser with the ability to prioritise and manage work load
- Good understanding of the governance and regulation of the use of human samples
- Excellent IT skills, including Excel
- Well-developed negotiating and influencing skills
- Ability to write and structure reports
- Excellent attention to detail
- Previous experience of effective communication with internal and external customers
- Clear understanding data protection and GDPR policy and high respect for confidentiality
- Able to work effectively under pressure and demonstrate resilience
- Ability to work flexibly and collaboratively

**Salary per annum**:£39,853 to £47,000 (dependent upon skills and experience)
