British Heart Foundation (BHF)’s vision is a world free from the fear of heart and circulatory diseases. For more than 60 years, we have been at the forefront of cutting-edge research that has saved and improved millions of lives.

We are the biggest independent funder of heart and circulatory research in the UK, funding over £100 million of research each year into all heart and circulatory diseases and their causes. We are also the UK’s largest charity retailer, with support from our 700 stores, 4,000 colleagues, and 18,000 volunteers.

We work hard to ensure everyone has the guidance, support, and access to services that they need. We advocate for conditions where our lifesaving research can thrive, shaping and influencing policy to create strong foundations for scientific advancement and the healthiest environments for everyone.

We have so much to be proud of, but we know we’re just scratching the surface. We want to support more people and grow cardiovascular research that is truly inclusive of diverse populations’ health needs and ensures our healthcare system meets key cardiovascular patient and workforce needs, whilst also building new partnership initiatives. Our amazing fundraisers, shoppers, supporters, and research partners provide the passion and determination which makes lifesaving breakthroughs possible.

Our Chair of Trustees leads our Board and steers our work, enabling our Trustees to contribute their immense, diverse expertise to oversee the governance and strategic direction of BHF. Working in partnership with our Trustees, Chief Executive, and Executive Group, our Chair guides BHF’s progress towards our mission of funding lifesaving research. As the steward of our governance and Articles of Association, they will work closely with our Deputy and Committee Chairs to ensure BHF is a strong, sustainable organisation that is fit for purpose, now and in the future.
