The Role

We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic individual to work in our Postgraduate Admissions at Newcastle University. This post is part time, 29.6 hours (4 days) per week.

You will be required to develop an expert understanding of university entry requirements and qualifications from UK and International applicants. Previous experience of student recruitment and admissions is desirable. You will have excellent written and verbal communication skills and a commitment to deliver an outstanding customer experience in an internationally-focused environment. You will be numerate, and possess strong IT skills. You will have experience of working within a busy, high-volume customer focused service, and be able to work accurately with outstanding attention to detail.

Please note that leave may be restricted during periods of peak workload for student recruitment and admissions. The main peak period is August - September.

The Person

Knowledge (inc. qualifications) Educated to GCE & A level (or equivalent) An understanding of the selection criteria for admission to a postgraduate programme within the University An awareness of national and international higher education qualifications An appreciation of customer care standards Knowledge of / sensitivity to multicultural issues
Desirable A sound knowledge of student frameworks for the issue of student visas An understanding of the main activities within the student life-cycle (admission, registration, examination, progression, graduation.) An understanding of student funding arrangements and the problems faced by applicants / students An understanding of University management structures An understanding of Data Protection issues Fluency in a second language, i.e. an Asian or Middle Eastern language
Skills (professional, technical, managerial, practical) Ability to work accurately with attention to detail in a busy office Ability to cope under pressure, organise and prioritise work effectively to cope with a number of conflicting demands Excellent information technology skills, especially word processing and data input skills Other information technology skills - use of large databases Good interpersonal skills and ability to communicate clearly - orally Ability to communicate clearly - in writing Excellent information technology skills, especially word processing Ability to work in a confidential and discreet manner
Experience and Achievements (paid or unpaid) Experience of the University or another Higher Education Institution Experience of clerical/secretarial work within a busy and varied customer focussed service
Desirable Experience of Higher Education admission procedures Secretarial or other work-related qualifications Experience of working independently and without close supervision Experience of SAP database and Microsoft Dynamics
