**Activities and Responsibilities of the Post**

**Principle Purpose of the role**

The Investigator will support the investigation of internet based offences against children, view and grade the indecent images of children (IIOC), and also assist with all other areas of work within the Internet Child Abuse Investigation Team (ICAIT). Applications are invited for the above post in the ICAIT department at Halesworth Police Station.

It will be necessary for flexibility regarding working hours in order to participate in searches and other ICAIT roles, including early mornings and/or evenings (this may include short notice change of shift for which you will be compensated in line with the police staff council handbook)

**Main Activities of the Role**
- Viewing and categorisation of indecent images of children (IIOC), in line with the national grading policy in support of prosecutions.
- Maintaining close liaison and cooperation with other forces and external agencies in relation to the gathering and preparation of evidence, interviewing witnesses and supporting the safety of victims
- Assisting with searches of premises, which may require short notice change of working hours
- Taking responsibility for evidence and property; storing, transporting and restoring property to the owner
- Arranging and providing safeguarding measures for victims of crime
- Joint Enterprise working with Children/Adult Social Services
- Reviewing electronic devices evidence and producing Streamlined Forensic Reports (MG22b) in evidence
- Any other duties that are commensurate with the role and grade as may be requested by management

**Person Specification**

It is essential that applicants meet the following criteria:

- Demonstrate a strong understanding of digital skills and investigation techniques including a working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to develop complex forensic reports and communicate effectively with a wide range of different audiences, at all levels.
- Evidence of using own initiative to meet deadlines with a high level of flexibility, integrity and motivation.
- Proven ability to proactively prioritise and manage workloads with the capability of prioritising competing demands with mínimal supervision.
- The ability to work as part of a team
- Ability to travel within Suffolk.

It is desirable that applicants meet the following criteria:

- An understanding of law and procedures relating to The Sexual Offences Act 2003, Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000 (RIPA), Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 (PACE) and Criminal Procedure and Investigations Act 1996 (CPIA), and legislation relevant to the role.
- Investigative skills and mindset with an understanding of investigative prosecution processes.
- Experience of working on a multi-agency basis (e.g. with Children’s Services, Health etc)
- Experience of working within a policing environment

Hours of work are 37 per week Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 16:00 with flexibility on start and finish times where appropriate.

- Whilst the role is normally based at the aforementioned location, you may be required to work at other establishments across both Norfolk and Suffolk Constabularies as may be reasonably required. Police Staff Conditions of Service will be adhered to in such instances
- All duties must be carried out in accordance with relevant Health and Safety legislation and good practice. A ‘No Smoking in the Work Place’ policy applies.
- All duties must be carried out in a manner that supports the Constabulary’s commitment to equality and inclusion
- Viewing of the indecent images can be extremely upsetting and have an impact on the wellbeing of the jobholder. The jobholder should be prepared for this and to seek and take advice on how to prevent any long-lasting impact on their wellbeing.
- There may be occasional requests for a flexible approach to working hours in order to participate in searches and other ICAIT roles, including early morning and or evenings. This will be managed and compensated in line with the Police Staff Council Handbook.
