iCaSH Suffolk are excited to be developing and expanding their Results Management and Health Advising Team. We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Sexual Health Adviser to join our well established and friendly team across Suffolk.

Cambridgeshire Community Services NHS Trust provides Integrated Contraception & Sexual Health (iCaSH) across Bedford, Cambridgeshire, Milton Keynes, Norfolk, Peterborough and Suffolk.

The service delivers care specifically to meet the needs of its diverse population. The Suffolk service is community based with three main clinics in Ipswich, Bury St Edmunds, and Lowestoft providing contraception, sexual health and HIV care and treatment.

The successful applicant will need to demonstrate wide experience in sexual health alongside understanding and confidence in safeguarding practice.

To manage a caseload of patients requiring Sexual Health Adviser contact within the service. To provide advice, support, information, education, treatment and health promotion to patients diagnosed with sexually transmitted infections such as chlamydia, gonorrhoea, herpes, syphilis, HIV and hepatitis B & C. To manage and oversee the results of tests undertaken within the service and carry out robust partner notification, to ensure the attendance and treatment of contacts.

To provide a safe environment whereby patients can access care, discuss their concerns and ask questions.Provide information, advice, treatment, health promotion and education for patients diagnosed with sexually transmitted infections, providing support and onward referral as required.

To ensure that any safeguarding concerns are managed appropriately.

To provide care in accordance with iCaSH Sexual Health Adviser Handbook.

To provide time limited 1:1 work for patients specifically around risk reduction and behaviour change, using evidenced based tools such as motivational interviewing and behavioural change models, which promotes good sexual health and minimises risk.

Assess all factors which might negatively affect a patient’s sexual health and refer to appropriate specialist services for example: psychology/psychiatry and alcohol and drug services as required.

To provide ongoing support and advice for those with associated concerns for example:. sexual assault, termination of pregnancy, sexual or gender identity, relationship and psychosexual issues.

Ensure at all times that the clients identity and the confidential nature of the information obtained is in accordance with current legislation, and NHS and Trust policies.

Facilitate the recall of patients with untreated infections or those in need of follow-up and/or test of cure. To exchange relevant information about patients and contacts with other sexual health clinics as necessary.

To be competent in the management of under 18 year olds and vulnerable adults working within Fraser Guidelines and mental capacity assessments and liaising with the multi-disciplinary team and CCS and local safeguarding teams/services as appropriate.

Ensure safeguarding concerns, identified on online testing platform, are followed up appropriately.

To independently assess, plan and evaluate programmes of care with use of Patient Group Directions (PGDs) or if you have a non-medical prescribing qualification, you will be required to practice as a prescriber as part of this role. To supply treatments to patients as prescribed.

To perform phlebotomy as required in accordance with Trust and service guidelines and standard operating procedures and be able to perform Point of Care HIV testing, where delivered in accordance with service guidelines and standard operation procedures if relevant to the locality.

To lead and particulate in sexual health promotion work within the service.

To work alongside the HIV specialist team, providing clinician and patient support.

To work within the Society of Sexual Health Advisors (SSHA) guidance.

Develop or contribute to the writing, review and updating of Trust and Service policies, guidance, standard operating procedures and other such documents.
