**Personal Assistant To Disabled Employer.**

**Salary**: £16 per hour

**Hours**: 13

Friday 9am - 1pm

Saturday 9am - 4pm

**About Me**

I am a lady in my fifties living with my two children. I have a neurological condition called congenital nystagmus, this impairs my vision, and I am classed as **Registered blind**. I also have neurological hearing loss - I wear hearing aids, bladder and bowel condition, I wear a right-hand brace for carpal tunnel.

I require a personal assistant to aid my independence both in the home and when out and about, to incorporate week days & weekend on discussion and requirement.

Both of my children are neurodiverse and have some difficulty regulating their emotions.

**Job details**

**Personal Care**
- Personal Grooming
- making sure my clothes and appearance are presentable, also supporting me with my hair.
- Assistance to get in and out of the shower or bath. I have no depth perception thus needing the physical assistance.

**Housekeeping**
- Changing and making of beds, cleaning rooms, windows i.e., hoovering, dusting, laundry, ironing.
- Ensuring items, furniture etc are all placed back where I want and need them to be.
- Mowing the Lawn.

**Shopping**
- Both food and personal shopping
- I need assistance in and out of a vehicle.
- I love doing my own shopping, but I need support around the store.
- Checking best before dates, product information
- I like to take my time and appreciate patience with support.

**Preparation and cooking of some meals.**
- You don’t have to be a fantastic cook, just good plain fare.
- Washing up and cleaning the kitchen afterwards will be required.
- Making sure I am safe using the oven.
- Cleaning the fridge/freezer i.e., defrost etc.
- Checking produce both in fridge and freezer to ensure food items are as they should be i.e., in date, suitable for human consumption.

**Hobbies and social activities**
- Support with my chosen activities
- Support swimming, assistance in and out the swimming pool
- Assistance in the water when required.
- Walking especially in unfamiliar environments
- Coming with me with me with my walking group.

**Support at events i.e., cinema, theatre, courses**
- Assisting personal care needs, obtaining drinks and refreshments, taking notes if relevant.
- Assisting/transporting me to visit friends/relatives.
- Assisting the checking of timetables for alternative transport, if chosen
- Support access to Children’s activities - cinema, beach etc.

**Postal Support**
- Essential assistance in checking post, letters/bills, and papers, reading them clearly.
- Helping with prioritisation.

**About You**

You will need patient and caring attitude. Basic maths, literacy and IT skill would be an advantage.

Previous experience is desirable but not essential and I will ensure you get the training required to support me.

Basic cookery and gardening skill will be required, and training provided by attending course in manual handing and first aid.

You must appreciate confidentiality need, be calm, patient, a good communicator with a good sense of humour.

A positive attitude to independence is essential to understand my needs as a disabled person alongside being non-judgemental to my choices.

Teamwork is important as well as working on your own initiative. Flexibility to allow for holiday and sickness cover.

You will need to be physically and visually fit to undertake any manual handling needs and you will need to be a car owner/driver.

**About Direct Payments**

Direct payments are available from local authorities for people who have care and support plan in place following a social care assessment. An amount of money is allocated to purchase the assistance and care needed to live independently. I should stress I am you employer and have full responsibility for recruitment, contracts, supervision, pay, training etc. A support service assists me in meeting these responsibilities as an employer.

**Salary**: This is a flat rate of pay that takes in to account unsociable hours and weekend working.

**Hours**: These are mínimally contracted hours. If I require additional support at other times I will give as much notice as possible, an ability to be flexible would be an advantage.

**Job Type**: Part-time

**Salary**: Up to £16.00 per hour

Schedule:

- Every weekend
- Monday to Friday
- Weekend availability
