**Job Description: Practice Receptionist**

**Accountable to: The General Practitioners in the Practice**

**Part time**

We are looking to recruit a new practice receptionist to join our busy, friendly team at our surgery in Woodhall Spa, working for four GPs in a rural setting.

One of our current receptionists is moving out of the area and we are looking for a replacement to join our hard working team. Our reception team help provide essential support to the practice and which is keen to provide our patients with highest standard of care in the modern busy world of general practice.

The surgery is open from 8.00am until 6.30pm each day; the successful applicant must be flexible and available to cover staff illness and annual leave, when required. Full time or part time; no weekends - hours to be discussed at interview. Prior receptionist experience desirable but not essential. Familiarity with computers is a priority. Current driving licence also required, as the successful applicant may work occasional sessions at the other site.

Reception Duties

1. Greet all patients on arrival.

2. Answer the telephone dealing with or redirecting enquiries.

3. Use the digital consultation tool to deal with patient queries and requests received online.

4. Handle general face-to-face enquiries referring where necessary.

5. Make new and follow-up appointments for patients.

6. Accept messages for the Doctors and other staff.

7. Deal with requests for repeat prescriptions.

8. Deal with requests for home visits.

10. Health and safety awareness (eg. Handling samples)

11. Collecting monies from patients for prescriptions (where appropriate) and for non-NHS services.

12. On rare occasions, if no admin staff available, open mail and distribute as appropriate. Leave private, confidential and personal mail unopened on Practice Manager’s desk or as directed.

13. Process correspondence, both paper and electronic, scanning them into the clinical computer system, matching to the appropriate patient and GP and auctioning as required.

14. Prepare computerised repeat prescriptions following practice protocol and set out for verification and signature of doctor. Deal with any queries relating to repeat prescriptions.

15. Maintain supplies of stationery available in reception area.

General Duties

1. Each morning, open premises, check heating and ventilation and restore telephone service at opening time.

2. Air and tidy waiting room and consulting rooms after each session

3. Each evening, leave reception area tidy and ready for incoming colleagues.

4. Check heating, set telephone transfer, set burglar alarm and lock up premises.

5. Undertake any other duties as agreed with the Partnership.

Skills and Qualifications

1. Friendly and approachable.

2. Computer skills essential.

3. Good face to face and telephone communication skills.

4. Ability to work under pressure and prioritise workload.

5. Common sense.

6. Flexible team player.

7. Ability to deal with stressed and agitated patients.
