The post holder’s main duties are to assist qualified psychologists in the delivery of psychological services in the pathway; providing psychological
assessment and specific interventions under the supervision of a qualified clinical psychologist, working independently within the limits agreed
with the psychology supervisor.

The post holder will produce assessment and intervention professional reports.

The post holder will support the service in the delivery of training initiatives.
The post holder will utilise research skills for audit, literature reviews, service development and other research initiatives within the pathway or
wider service.

The post holder will receive direct weekly clinical supervision from a Senior, Principal or Consultant Clinical Psychologist, and monthly management supervision from a Senior, Principal or Consultant Clinical Psychologist.
The post holder will perform delegated tasks within guidelines provided by the supervisor, will receive regular clinical supervision and will seek
additional supervision and guidance where required.

The post holder will be working with the Older Adult Psychology team, which is based at Bensham Hopsital in Gateshead. The team is well-established with six permanent psychologists. There are good links with the local Clinical Psychology Doctorates (Newcastle and Teesside) and trainees from those courses are on placement year round.

The team works across Gateshead offering psychological services to all older people in the catchment. The team works closely with the Gateshead Health Older People’s Mental Health Service, including into the older people’s inpatient wards and the Older People’s Mental Health Liaison Team, both based at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Team members offer teaching to the doctorate courses and to colleagues in the wider service, as well as providing consultation and joint working with other clinicians.

The post holder would receive weekly clinical supervision from a clinical psychologist, and monthly management supervision from a different clinical psychologist.

The post will be varied and with the intent to develop the post holder’s career. Duties will involve maintaining governance processes for the department (such as audits, annual and other reports), assisting clinicians with specific clinical assessments and interventions (including neuropsychological assessment), service evaluations, literature searches and reviews, and assisting with wider Older People's Mental Health Service initiatives.

The post is open to all eligible applicants and is based at Bensham Hopsital. There is the possibility of some flexible home working, in agreement with the line manager.

It is acknowledged that there may be specific skills required in some functions of the pathway that may be in addition to those listed above.
