We are looking for a **GM Studies - Africa & Europe** to provide strategic leadership to the Study Teams working on in-region projects such as the Jadar & Simandou projects to deliver on stakeholder expectations and on the business objectives throughout the project lifecycle. You will manage a portfolio of studies in these regions, including a team of Study Leads on the ground.

This is an excellent opportunity for a high achieving engineering or operations leader to expand their breadth of experience within RT Projects. Reporting to the **MD Studies** you will ensure that teams in these regions:

- Implement projects through the various study stages.
- Manage both internal and external stakeholder approvals to move the project through the various development stages, implementation and handover
- Monitor, manage and report all relevant study performance indicators to meet business requirements
- Implement project protocols and procedures to optimise decision making, record keeping, control of costs and team communications
- Establish operational relations with external stakeholders including local Government, local authorities, communities, non-governmental organisations and trade unions in order to optimise project success.
- Operate in line with Rio Tinto’s company values, in order to achieve objectives

**What you’ll bring**
- Senior leadership experience with effective influencing and negotiation skills
- Proven study management or project management ability
- Effective internal and external stakeholder engagement experience
- Tertiary qualifications in Engineering, Mining, Geology or a related discipline and Study Management experience.
- A strong technical background with some experience and understanding of underground operations
- Experience with implementing project protocols and procedures to optimise decision making, record keeping, control of costs and team communications
- Team management experience, ensuring the team operates in line with Rio Tinto’s company values
- Risk management, commercial awareness, business analysis & reporting, financial & operational/ business knowledge
- A tertiary qualification in Engineering, project management, processing, geoscience, environmental science, law, business analysis or other relevant discipline

You should also be passionate about delivering pragmatic, optimised solutions and have a natural curiosity, drive for results and appetite for construction challenge and risk based creative thinking.
