**Events & Kitchen Assistant (Sessional)**

**JOB DESCRIPTION**

**Hours**: Casual (zero hours contract)

Working will include some daytime but mainly evening / weekend work for weddings, events and charity activities.

Hours will be flexible to accommodate seasonal fluctuations.

**Pay**:National Minimum Wage (NMW) National Living wage (NLW) for over 23’s. + paid holiday

**Responsible to**:Wedding Co-ordinator

**Purpose of the Post**:To work at weddings and events at The Northorpe Barn. Tasks include food preparation and service of some of our menu’s including (but not restricted to) pie & peas, hot sandwiches, buffets, salads and sharing boards etc for up to 130 guests.

**Based**: Northorpe Hall & Barn, Northorpe Lane, Mirfield, WF14 0QL.

Northorpe Hall Child & Family Trust is an independent charity working to improve the mental health and emotional well-being of children and young people facing challenges. The Northorpe Barn is a beautifully restored venue which is used to raise funds to support the charities objectives. The
Northorpe barn has built a strong reputation as being a quality Wedding and event venue, where visitors have a high quality experience, and our committed staff are a core factor of our success.

**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**

**Ensuring a quality experience for site users**
- Kitchen duties including both the preparation and presentation of food to a high standard
- Some food service including refreshing buffets and maintaining food levels
- Maintain food hygiene standards & cleanliness in the kitchen and larder, including full clear down, washing up, sanitising utensils and removing rubbish etc
- Other non-food preparation duties could include assisting event staff in the set up and clear down of the barn, and supporting food service
- Provide excellent customer service skills when dealing with guests, remaining professional at all times
- Support the Wedding Co-Ordinator and Manager in any other tasks
- Working as part of the events team to make the barn a calm, professional and great place to work

**Events & Kitchen Assistant (Sessional)**

**PERSON SPECIFICATION**
The Events & Kitchen Assistants support the preparation and delivery of our food and menus to guests visiting our venue. You will have kitchen and food prep experience and have a ‘can do’ approach to service.

You will also be expected to support the wider events team to ensure our site and barn are safe, clean and ready to use by visitors and guest at our Weddings, Events and activities. The role can be exciting and physically demanding.

During events you will be required to provide excellent customer dining and event experience by supporting the Co-ordinator, Manager and Events Team to deliver outstanding customer service, work effectively together as a functioning team and support the kitchen team in delighting the customers.
Ideally you will have previous experience of carrying out a similar role and be able to demonstrate good customer care skills.

Most Fridays and Saturdays, our 500 year old barn hosts weddings and events to raise funds for the charity. You would help prepare the food, kitchen and rooms and help make the event a success. This may include serving food and clearing up while guests celebrate. You will work mainly weekends during the day and possibly until late on Saturdays. Break times will vary and a flexible attitude to working is essential to the role.

You will be able to communicate face to face with a range of people, including colleagues, wedding guests and charity staff. You will remain calm under pressure, and you will always represent the
Northorpe Barn professionally.

**Essential Criteria** - To be considered for this job you must:
1. Be physically able to do the tasks required

2. Have food preparation and food hygiene experience and have previously worked in a catering environment.

3. Understand safe practice in preparing and serving food and be willing to undertake further training.

4. Understand safe practice in lifting, handling and cleaning

5. Be able to communicate in a friendly and professional manner face to face, with customers and colleagues

6. Support the values and purpose of Northorpe Hall Child & Family Trust.

7. Accept that an enhanced DBS check and positive references are required as part of a safer recruitment process and be willing to undertake Safeguarding training to level 1.

8. Be enthusiastic, resilient, and positive.

9. Have a flexible approach to work, including, prep, service and cleaning.

10. Be willing to work regular weekends during the day and evening and be flexible with working patterns.

11. Be eligible to work in the UK.

**Job Type**: Zero hours contract
Contract length: 12 months

**Salary**: £5.28-£10.42 per hour
