Residential Therapeutic Care Worker
Did you know on average 100 children and young people enter the care system every day?
YMCA Robin Hood Group are opening our first home in Selby and are recruiting Therapeutic Residential Care Workers to be part of our new team.
We already operate not-for-profit homes for children aged 5-17 years old providing them with a safe, loving, nurturing home and are looking forward to being able to extend our care to more children in Selby.
As a Residential Therapeutic Care Worker, you will work really closely with these children supporting them in every aspect of their life; getting ready for school, playing games, planning weekend activities and holidays, homework, cooking, cleaning and washing everything you would do in your own home and for your own children as a parent.
But we are not your typical Childrens Care Home; we follow a trauma-informed therapeutic care model designed by a Consultant Psychologist specifically to support those children who have been affected by trauma, abuse or neglect. By following this model, you are giving the children the very best opportunity to thrive in life and have positive outcomes.
We will fully train you in our therapeutic care model so you are able to follow these principles in all work you do with the children and young people. Whether the child is in crisis and at risk of harm or having a reflective conversation on the sofa, you will have all the tools you require to be able to listen without judgement, show empathy and offer support and practical ways to regulate behaviour and if needed, be confident in techniques to reduce harm to them, your colleagues and the home.
We dont work on consequences or punishments, instead we work on positive reinforcement, restorative justice and working closely with the children so they feel safe and supported even at times of crisis.
The growth and development you will see in the children and young people in the home is outstanding; you will be able to see the tangible differences you have made to them, built a trusting, nurturing and genuine relationship with them. The leadership you will receive from the Home Manager is also outstanding with all our homes receiving a minimum of Good Ofsted rating with Outstanding in Leaderships in many of our homes. Our Managers are hands on and lead by example, work alongside the rest of the team, advocate for our children and support their teams like they were family.
Working on a rotating shift pattern, you will work on average 40 hours per week including a 30 mins paid break. As to be expected, the home needs cover 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year so your shifts may include early starts, late finishes and over nights; we pay £80 per sleep in totals £7,680 per annum. On average you will work 7 shifts across a 3 week rolling rota.
You will be working as part of a staff team within the home but also as part of the wider Residential Care team where you will work collaboratively across the different homes providing cover and support when needed; our whole-team approach means you broaden your experiences within different homes, build more relationships as you work with different people on shift and learn from all the subtle differences each home presents.
Our salaries are made up of:
Base salary (dependent on experience) £25,500 - £26,500 per annum
Plus Sleep-In's (*based on 8 sleeps in per month) £4,320 per annum
Plus performance related pay up to £3,000 per annum
**What next?**
If you think this all sounds like something youd like to be involved with, please apply
Whether your background is in childrens residential care, nursing, teaching or just being a parent yourself, we relish the opportunity to bring new experience, skills and perspective into our team.
We are united by our resilience, determination and passion to look after these children and young people to the best of our ability. We are all driven by our desire to make a difference to children who have experienced things no child should ever experience.
Whilst we will support you to gain your level 3 Diploma for Residential Care, we are really open to your background and previous experience. We are looking for you to embody our YMCA Robin Hood Group core values; Honesty, Responsibility, Respect and Care.
Ideally you will drive and have your own car to facilitate travelling between the different homes.
You will also be happy to undertake an enhanced DBS check and register on the Update Service.
We cannot pretend this is an easy job, but then nothing great ever came easy, but it is rewarding in so many ways.
