We are seeking a Locum Healthcare Assistant within gynaecology outpatients department, supporting nursing staff and clinicians as well as assisting patients and contributing towards the running of the department.

The post holder works under the indirect supervision of the Registered Nurse. They will work within the boundaries of their existing and developing skills at all times. The post holder is expected to maintain high standards of care, managing their time, tasks and resources effectively. The key areas within that the healthcare assistant will be expected to support include the colposcopy and hysteroscopy service which are vital tertiary clinics within the department.

Main duties:
The post holder works under the indirect supervision of the Registered Nurse. They will work within the boundaries of their existing and developing skills at all times. The post holder is expected to maintain high standards of care, managing their time, tasks and resources effectively. The key areas within that the healthcare assistant will be expected to support include the colposcopy and hysteroscopy service which are vital tertiary clinics within the department.

The role involves working within a team of seven staff who are passionate about women's health and are proud to uphold the trust values. We also work with a wider group of specialist nurses as well as the team of clinicians.

Job responsibilities:

- Assist the patient to dress if appropriate.
- Under indirect supervision take and record the patients observations as required and record on patient record inform the clinician if results are not within the normal parameters.
- Report physical and psychological changes in patients condition to the Registered Nurse, ensuring pain and distress are acted on promptly.
- Accurately record information as prescribed on the patients care plan if required.
- To promote and safeguard the wellbeing of patients, their families and colleagues and escalate any concerns to the nurse in charge.
- To ensure the effective running of the outpatient department assisting with any needs of clinics, medical staff and nurse specialists.
- To be trained in the Colposcopy clinic chaperoning, assisting in clinic, ensuring adequate stock is available and to ensure the service runs effectively by supporting the relevant practitioners
- To be trained in the Hysteroscopy clinic chaperoning, assisting in clinic, ensuring adequate stock is available and to ensure the service runs effectively by supporting the relevant practitioners.
- To assist the Registered Nurse caring for patients who are undergoing a trial without a catheter and attend to any needs specific to the patient.
- To assist with the Termination of Pregnancy service and provide any duties that pertains to the patient group

Must have:

- Have proficiency in English and Maths and pass the trust Maths and English test on interview
- Educated to secondary education level or equivalent
- Previous experience in caring role e.g. paid and unpaid relevant to the post.
- Working within a multi-disciplinary team.
- Have knowledge an infection control and the importance of adequate hand hygiene

Desirable
- Have an NVQ level 2 in Healthcare
- Previous experience in working in gynaecology.
- Have insight into how the outpatient department works and how it differs from the inpatient setting
- Competently organise and carry out designated work load within scope of previous training.
- Demonstrates the knowledge of the importance of confidentiality / privacy and dignity

Pay: £11.00-£13.00 per hour
