**Job overview**:
An exciting new job role has been created to become an integral member of the Radiology Team. The post holder will be expected to coordinate ED and inpatients radiology referrals. They will work in collaboration with the Radiologists, Radiographers, organising patient flow within Radiology to ensure timely access and resolution of queries which may affect patient flow across the whole department. They will work on a rotation to provide service cover across 7 days. Hours of work will be 8am to 6pm working 4 days on and 4 days off. The role is based in CT in our Emergency Department.

**Main duties of the job**:
To assist in the efficient running of the Radiology Department by liaising with wards/ ED and porters to ensure patients arrive in a timely manner and are correctly prepared for imaging. The post holder will support the Radiographer team leader and Radiology registrars by performing non-clinical tasks which will release radiographer and registrar time to support scanning and reporting of the patients.

They will take actions to avoid delays such as contacting wards to establish patient status and readiness for the scan, explaining what is required.

A proactive approach is required to pre-empt delays where possible by using their knowledge and understanding of Radiology and hospital systems such as CRIS/Medway and Nerve Centre in order to monitor the patient flow and identify issues.

**Detailed job description and main responsibilities**:
To have an overall understanding of what patients are waiting for and proactively address delays by liaising with the relevant referring ward/area

Have an awareness of capacity within each area to ensure patient flow in each area is as smooth as possible and reduce situations of patient build-up and conversely poor utilisation of the scanner

Take responsibility for answering hospital calls regarding in-patients to a central Radiology number including calls from referring clinicians and give proactive advice, problem solving and escalating as appropriate. This will include re-organisation of existing workload on a frequent basis in response to queries received from consultants, registrars and external clients.

Answer all queries regarding scan times and results availabilities for all in-patients attending Radiology

Liaise with wards to discuss patient preparation for scan and ascertain as to whether the patient is ready and alert any issues which may affect patient flow to the Team Leader in the relevant modality

Place patients onto Nerve Centre portering and contact the porters to discuss any patients that do not attend within 30 minutes of requested time. Escalate to site matron as necessary.

Communicate rejections of radiology requests to the wards, entering also on Nerve Centre

Gather any additional information required by the Radiology Team to enable good patient flow and effective utilisation of key scanning equipment

Assist with the management of patient pathways by giving clinicians relevant information to enable pathway progress
