**What you’ll be doing**

You will be responsible for the effective day-to-day running** **of** Crossness Sewage Treatment Works**. This is done by using SCADA and responding to specific situations to ensure the relevant processes are brought under control or escalated to an event. At times, you will be the responsible person on-site and will direct the technicians to ensure that the plant and equipment are operated and maintained to best operating practices.

You will be required to carry out process fault-finding and suitable rectification by first fixing, and raising issues to maintenance or management as required.

The role involves liaising with various contractors, and issuing safety authorisations and permits as required.
- Being responsible for the overall operation of the Sewage Treatment Works, the plant and equipment
- Maximising sludge throughputs from the STW across to the THP plant
- Monitoring, collating and reporting data to ensure that statutory and regulatory compliance is met, and the site meets regulatory quality standards and customer demand
- Processing faults and advising suitable rectification by the first fix, raising issues to the Maintenance Scheduler or Performance Managers as required
- Assisting with on-site capital project works, co-ordinate maintenance and operational personnel raising reactive work when required
- Issuing of TWOSAs and Permits as required
- Monitoring stock levels and request and monitor deliveries as required
- Undertaking safety and security checks and taking responsibility for the health and safety of yourself and your colleagues
- Operating and monitoring the processes from the Control room using SCADA, and where necessary, go into the process area to carry out operations and when required, inspect the process area

**What you should bring to the role**

Have experience with **SCADA **system. Although full training will be provided, experience in **a shift controller** role would be advantageous. You will be familiar with **wastewater treatment processes** (eg. as a process or maintenance technician or another technical role).
- Appropriate educational level/qualification (e.g. GCSE, including Maths and English)
- Experience in a related role
- Ability to work unsupervised during the day and if covering 12-hour shifts, day or night.
- Basic Computer Skills required. Ability to operate computers and use basic programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel and Lotus Notes, SAP.
- Knowledge of relevant treatment processes is advantageous but full training is provided.
- Previous experience with SCADA systems would be an advantage.
- Reasonable level of physical fitness - the job involves collecting samples regularly from around the site and monitoring site processes.
- Driving licence would be an advantage, but not essential.
- Natural inquisitive nature and enjoyment of practical problem-solving.
- Calm under pressure.
- Good communication skills
