Overview

Our client plays a key role in supporting power plant and gas storage projects, outages, and maintenance activities across UK and Swedish assets. They are seeking an experienced Controls & Instrumentation (C&I) Projects Engineer to fill a lead C&I Project Engineer role.

The role will predominantly be based at Isle of Grain & Enfield Power Stations over the next few years, with large outages also taking place in Connahs Quay and various power plants across the UK, requiring regular travel and overnight stays. The outage team is responsible for the following UK-based power plants: Connahs Quay, Cottam Development Centre, Enfield, Isle of Grain, Holford Gas, Killingholme, Ratcliffe-On-Soar, and Taylors Lane.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the team, with the prospect of working with a diverse mix of established and new power plant and technology on advanced power stations and storage facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and deliver projects and outages, identifying and managing stakeholders across the functional organization and with the supply chain, ensuring process and regulatory compliance with the highest standard of HSSE and Quality performance.
  • Undertake proactive and reactive work, including fault finding, problem solving, and investigations, across a broad range of process plant and systems in support of performance against Key Performance Indicators (safety, time, cost, quality, technical performance, and compliance).
  • Lead project teams as required, dependent on project complexity.
  • Ensure best practice is employed and shared across sites by networking and benchmarking comparisons with plants, departments, engineers, industries, and teams to achieve optimum levels of performance, revenue, and capital expenditure.
  • Define scopes of work and develop both technical and contract specifications.
  • Establish and deliver contractor Quality Assurance and Quality Control.
  • Promote a culture of health, safety, environmental awareness, and quality; seek out improvements in all these areas and directly contribute to their development, planning, and delivery for Asset Support.

Requirements

  • Higher National Diploma or Degree level in a Control & Instrumentation related discipline, supported with a sound technical knowledge of engineering, project management, and maintenance practices gained through experience.
  • Apply good working knowledge of health, safety, and environmental legislation and standards to NEBOSH Certificate level or a recognized equivalent in a practical manner.
  • Sound understanding of complex C&I process system operations, knowledge of current regulations and policy affecting the management and operations of process plant engineering assets, including Functional Safety (IEC61508/61511) and Cyber Security for Industrial and Control Systems (OG86).
  • Strong interpersonal skills enabling effective working relationships within the team, across business functions, and with senior stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication, planning, and organizational skills enabling effective task prioritization and resource management.
  • In-depth knowledge, understanding, and application of project management tools and techniques.
  • Organizational, contract, and project management skills to run several contracts within a project, involving on/off-site working, including health, safety, environmental, and quality aspects, as well as commercial and technical issues.
  • Full and clean UK driving license.

Desirable

  • Use and knowledge of best practice lean tools for resolving engineering issues to root cause level.
  • Management, fault finding, and troubleshooting of DCS and PLC systems.
  • Management of alarms and simulations.
  • Knowledge and competence of using SAP-based systems.
  • Experience of working in a fast-paced environment.
