Glasgow, United Kingdom Scottish Water Full time

Together we are Trusted to Serve Scotland.

It’s not every job where you make a difference for the people of Scotland. But it’s what’s behind every job here. Our work keeps Scotland’s water flowing, from reservoir to tap - and from sink to sea.

Whether it’s recruiting new talent, arranging training, managing pay and benefits, providing advice to managers, or supporting people through big life changesIf it’s to do with how our people experience life at Scottish Water, our People directorate are there to help.

We employ over 4,000 colleagues across Scotland - from Stranraer to Shetland. Every one of them has their own unique experiences, perspectives, skills and aspirations. So, it requires a big team effort to provide everyone with the personalised support they need to thrive and enjoy their time at work.

We are delighted to be offering three Modern Apprenticeships in the People directorate. We are looking for one apprentice to join each of the following teams:
Our Learning and Development team coordinate a huge range of technical and specialist training for people across the business. They handle all training related questions, coordinate with external training companies, set up and manage courses (both online and in person), and point people in the direction of training that best suits their needs.

People Connect is the first point of call for people when they need help or advice on employment and pay related issues. People Connect also provide a comprehensive HR Administration service: creating new contracts, setting up new hires, doing pre-employment checks, processing leavers, and making changes to pay and benefits.

What you’ll do

While each team has a different focus, the roles have a lot in common. No matter which team you join, you’ll:

- Learn all about Scottish Water, how we operate, and our key people policies and processes.
- Handle and analyse data related to your team’s work

You’ll be spending the first 18-24 months completing an SVQ in Business Administration, and your final year working towards a more People-specific qualification, e.g. the CIPD Foundation Certificate in People Practice.

You’ll also complete a range of other short courses and training which will help you to grow and develop. But the majority of your learning will happen on the job with support and coaching from your teammates.

What you’ll need

You will have a genuine interest in developing a career in Human Resources/People Practice and the drive to complete the qualifications alongside your on-the-job learning.

You’ll already have a basic understanding of the main Office 365 apps (Word, Excel, etc) and be happy to learn about the other systems we use - particularly Workday and Cornerstone.

Personality-wise, it’s really important that you’re conscientious. You’re someone who does what you say you’re going to do. You like to help, and enjoy finding answers and solving problems.

You’ll be organised and with good attention to detail. And you’ll understand how important confidentiality is in this line of work.

Looking out for you

While the work we do is important, we know it’s not the only thing that matters. That’s why we make sure you have everything you need to find a good work-life balance.

The working hours for all three roles are Monday to Friday, from 9am until 5pm. But you’ll get plenty of time to recharge with 38 days of holiday every year (including public holidays). And you can even buy five more if you need a little extra time. You can also take paid time off to volunteer in your community.

When it comes to major life events we have family-friendly policies around adoption, maternity, and parental leave. And for the everyday? We embrace flexible working.

For your future, there’s our pension (the ‘know-what-you’ll-get-when-you-retire’ kind), as well as life assurance.

As for some nice extras? You can expect an annual company bonus. Not to mention access to SW Splash - handy rewards that can save you money on holidays, bills, and shopping.

The not-so-small print

The starting salary for these apprenticeships will be £19,587 - which will increase as you move through your training.

You’ll be offered a fixed term contract for 3 years. Our hope is that you will then move into a permanent role in your team.

You’ll be mostly based at our office in Stepps, which is accessible by car, bus and train. Occasionally we might also ask you to travel to other Scottish Water sites.

Do you have any support needs?
