The post is short term pending a review of the service and potential restructure.
The responsibilities and requirements of the role are broadly aligned to those of a Management Support Officer, however the role title itself is Council Governance Assistant and the role involves providing support in the Council Governance Unit for a range of administrative processes relating to the Council’s Member meetings and decision-making processes, as well as school admission appeals. The post holder will also work closely with Councillors in a range of tasks, including updating their webpages, processing allowance claims and booking / publicising advice surgeries. You will also give routine advice on governance and other procedures and help direct Member enquiries to the appropriate place. The post holder will also provide absence cover for the Cabinet Members’ Personal Assistants.
In particular, you ideally will need experience in a business support role and working with confidential information, as well as experience of using business systems. Some experience of local government and knowledge of the functions within a Council would also also useful. Good communication skills and the ability to exercise tact and diplomacy are essential, particularly in developing a close working relationship with Councillors.
