Due to internal promotion of our current matron, to a new band 8b Senior Matron role, an exciting opportunity has arisen at the Emergency Department (ED), at the Royal United Hospital, Bath. We are looking for an experienced, dynamic and compassionate senior emergency nurse to lead our ED nursing team. You will lead a team of Band 7 nurses/AHP's to deliver safe, high quality and effective care to our patients.

We have a new purpose built resuscitation room, children's and adolescent area and rapid assessment area. We are currently redesigning our front door processes including rapid assessment, streaming and fit to sit. We have an autonomous Emergency Care Practitioner service in our urgent care area, you will work closely with the Urgent Care lead nurse to ensure outstanding, high quality services. We are proud of its developing Advanced Clinical Practitioner service, professionally led by the ED Consultant Nurse, who has responsibilities for advanced practice, strategic leadership, education and research.

You will professionally report to the Senior Matron and Divisional Director of Nursing for medicine. You will work closely with the clinical director, clinical lead, urgent care lead nurse, consultant nurse and specialty manager in ensuring services are safe, evidence based and are in line with trusts strategic objectives.

To be responsible for the nursing leadership, improvement, and management of services within own defined clinical area/specialty in order to ensure the highest standards of patient care and service are delivered in the most efficient and effective way.

To provide expert advice to Sisters / Charge Nurses/AHP's and other managers / leaders to ensure that nursing practice and patient care is delivered to the highest standards.

To ensure the fundamentals of care are delivered effectively within own defined clinical area/specialty and that competence in clinical practice is both developed and maintained. To ensure that all responsible staff and teams within the defined clinical area/specialty are effectively line managed and developed to achieve their own and their departmental objectives which in turn will meet the Trust’s strategic priorities and Healthcare Commission standards for better health.

To take a professional lead role in advising and supporting the Clinical Lead and Service Manager upon the corporate nursing agenda, in addition to own specialist area of nursing practice and development.

To contribute to the corporate nursing agenda and lead upon specific projects as requested.

To act as a role model as a highly visible, accessible, fair and authoritative figure to whom staff, patients, families and carers can rely upon.
