About the Role

The Social Mobility and Widening Participation Senior Officer will plan and deliver Step Up Scholars, a year 6 transition intervention as well as plan, deliver and evaluate the year 7 aspects of our pre-16 flagship programme, King’s Scholars. The postholder will also project manage the pre-16 digital platforms, onyourmarks and gameplan.ac.uk, this will include development of strategy, maintenance and developing key partnerships. On your marks is a comprehensive scheme of learning for pupils ages 11-14, where teachers can download lesson plans with the aim of expanding pupils’ knowledge of university and develops their metacognitive skills. They will also play an active role in delivery of King’s Scholars and recruiting and delivering Parent Power, our parental engagement scheme.

This post will be offered on an indefinite contract contract.

Key responsibilities

Plan, deliver and evaluate Step Up Scholars and ensure a pipeline of year 6 students are progressing onto King’s Scholars

Plan, deliver and evaluate all aspects of King’s Scholars year 7 which includes a Family Day event on campus

Liaise with pre-16 team and partner schools to run Step Up Scholars and King’s Scholars

Create a strategy and project manage all pre-16 digital platforms gameplan.ac.uk and onyourmarks

Manage allocated budget for Step Up Scholars, King’s Scholars (year 7), Onyourmarks

Lead and supervise teams of staff and student ambassadors to run events and workshops

Skills, knowledge, and experience

Essential criteria
- Relevant work experience and/or education: We think a wide range of different work and educational experiences could support you to be successful in this role. Relevant work experience might include work in education, or charity setting. Relevant educational experiences might include higher education in a related discipline, professional qualifications or other training
- Experience working or volunteering with children and/or young people
- Experience of undertaking and completing projects which require high levels of administrative and organisational skill
- Ability to communicate complicated and specialist information orally and in writing
- Ability to use initiative and creativity to resolve problems, define clear outcomes for improvement and set out how progress and success will be measured
- Ability to decide own pattern of work and manage own workload and resources
- Ability to gather and manipulate data so that it can be interpreted by yourself and others
- Ability to work with others to deliver project aims and overcome challenges
- Ability to coach or train others on how to undertake specific tasks and give clear direction on desired outcomes

Desirable Criteria
- Educated to degree or foundation degree level
- Experience overseeing budgets and undertaking financial administration
- Understanding of the widening participation agenda and/or the role of higher education in social mobility
