In this substantive, full time, role you will join an established head and neck multi-disciplinary team and be responsible for the day-to-day and emergency care of patients with head and neck cancer, following trauma and with other OMFS conditions. In elective theatre, you will principally work with Mr Surwald, as a ‘surgical team’, for major head and neck cancer cases. You will participate in a 1 in 5 on-call rota for Sussex Major Trauma Centre. The job is based in Brighton and Haywards Heath.

**The duties of the post include the following**:
The delivery of clinical excellence in OMFS

The delivery of excellence in collaborative working with colleagues from within and out with the Trust

Provide clinical expertise in head and neck cancer, supporting and supervising members of the multidisciplinary team.

Provide a specialty service to the Trust with responsibility for the diagnosis and management of patients referred with possible head and neck cancer and other OMFS conditions.

Ensure that patients are provided with the highest possible standard of diagnosis, treatment, and care in the most effective and timely way.

To lead on development plans and delivery of key performance indicators for head and neck cancer

To supervise, train and manage junior medical and dental staff working at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Trust to ensure high standards of clinical practice and efficient use of resources.

To maintain effective communication and working relationships with medical, scientific, management, technical and nursing staff, as required for performing the responsibilities of this post. This includes electronic communication within the department, the Trust, and with national and international colleagues.

To maintain current knowledge of OMFS, and related areas, appropriate to carrying out these duties, and to participate in a recognised programme of continuing medical education and professional development.
