**About the job**

At Compass Everyday Open College we offer unique, interesting and bespoke opportunities for those with Learning Disabilities and/or Autism. Each individual is unique, so we offer a service shaped around each individual’s personal preferences, aspirations and needs.

We are looking for Positive Behaviour Support Workers who recognise that people express their emotions in different ways, including with behaviour that challenges (physical, verbal and emotional). We want people who can work collaboratively within a team to be vigilant to protect the individuals we support and to enable them to explore and realise their potential, to develop relationships, skills, and independence so that they can pursue their aspirations.

**What would you be doing?**
- Teaching, mentoring and helping to develop skills
- Finding creative ways to achieve ASDAN evidence
- Encouraging the people we support to access the community
- Accompanying to health, wellbeing and leisure activities
- Be vigilant and mindful of potential triggers points at all times
- Dealing with some behaviours that challenge
- Supporting and/or delivering personal care
- Taking an interest in the aims and aspirations of the people we support
- Being a great role model for socially appropriate behaviour, language and relationships
- Providing support during times of crisis
- Working with the colleagues, management and the transition of newly supported individuals including the development of new strategies, PBS plans etc.

**What makes a good Positive Behaviour Support Worker**

The ability to think on your feet is an important skill for this role, as it means that you will be able to adapt - using different approaches to support effectively and promote more acceptable behaviours whilst reducing the more challenging ones.

**Other duties**
- Complete and/or create all necessary documents, admin, records and registers.
- Attend all mandatory training sessions and follow up refresher courses as required to fulfil your role.
- Be aware of and abide by all relevant legislation and guidance particularly the Mental Capacity, Care and Equality Acts.
- To be fully aware of all areas of the Underpinning Knowledge handbook and contribute to its further development.
- Participate in regular 1:1’s/supervisions/appraisals and team meetings.
- Maintain a positive and professional image of yourself and the organisation including a high standard of personal presentation and hygiene.
- Comply with all company policies, procedures, directives and instructions.
- Promote, and act at all times - in accordance with the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Policy.
- Manage time efficiently and effectively.
- Understand and conform to national and local policies, responding appropriately to emergency procedures and the actions required in the event of an incident or accident.
- To be vigilant to potential safeguarding concerns and respond in accordance with the Safeguarding Vulnerable People Policy and Procedure.

Disclosures of confidential information or disclosures of any data of a personal nature can result in prosecution for an offence under the Data Protection Act 2018 or an action for civil damages under the same Act in addition to any disciplinary action.
