Finance Apprentice

We currently have an opportunity available for a **Finance Apprentice **to join our team working in **Exeter**. You will join us on a **full-time, fixed term basis for 3 years** (Mon-Fri 9-5 with 1 day a week for college) and in return, you will receive a** **salary of** **£15,000 per annum, rising to a maximum of £19,000 in Year 2, **plus an excellent range of benefits, ongoing development and training for a long-term career with us.

**About the role**:
As a **Finance Apprentice**, you will have the opportunity to work within key functions of the Finance Directorate within South West Water as part of a series of six month rotational posts among existing apprentices. The apprentice will also have the opportunity to work within the parent company Pennon Group PLC, providing them with exposure to wider group activities. The role will require travel to our office in Exeter.

**Your responsibilities as our** **Finance Apprentice will include**:

- Pennon Group Internal Audit - support the internal audit team deliver the Group Audit Plan across Pennon, South West Water and Viridor
- Pennon Group Investor Relations - a key role in helping to support the wider Group Finance function
- Procurement (Shared Services) - As part of assisting the team you will process purchase requisitions in line with Service Level Agreements (SLA) of 48hrs
- Corporate & Central Finance - responsible for helping to produce the Company results and monthly Financial Statements, duties include double entry bookkeeping, journal processing, bank reconciliations, accrual & prepayment calculations, preparing management reports, preparing National Statistic returns and VAT analysis
- Wholesale Finance - responsible for helping to support an ‘in function’ finance team to monitor, govern and report on operating expenditure within the drinking water, waste water, support services and corporate and Engineering departments

**What we are looking for**:

- 5 GCSEs at grade C or above including Maths and English and educated to an ‘A’ level standard (Grades C or above) or equivalent, preferably including Maths.
- Good general IT skills to include MS Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint
- Methodical, accurate and consistent in their approach to work
- Have good attention to detail and ability to sense check / ‘self-review’ their own work
- Determined approach to solving problems
- Enthusiasm and desire to learn new skills
- Reliable, punctual, thorough and committed to achieving the requirements of the role
- Full UK Driver’s License
