We are looking for an experienced Mental Health Practitioner to join our growing Mental Health Support Teams (MHSTs) in Barking and Dagenham.

MHST’s are a new service designed to support children and young people with mild to moderate mental health and emotional wellbeing difficulties within education settings. We are a multidisciplinary team made up of Children and Young People’s Mental Health Practitioners and Education Mental Health Practitioners.

**MHSTs aims to**:
Support children and young people with mild to moderate mental health problems through evidence-based interventions

Support schools in developing their whole school approach to mental health

Provide timely advice to school staff and to liaise with other services to help children and young people get the right help and stay in education.

Barking & Dagenham supports up to 20,000 young people across a variety of different education settings with further expansion planned for September 2024

Work in partnership with current clinical and service lead in the set up and roll out of new service which fits with current model of practice. To manage and over see locality adopting an integrated approach with current MHST in place.

Work in partnership with schools, to support children, young people experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties and their families in the self-management of presenting difficulties.

Work in partnership with schools, children, young people, and families in the development of plans for the intervention and agreed outcomes.

To oversee the formulation and treatment and management plans for schools, parents, children, and young people being supported by the senior team members - using a range of specialist psychological interventions appropriate to the service, individual and group.

Starting with NELFT
NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop in sessions focusing in engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

Probationary Period

High Cost Area Supplement - London
This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (minimum payment of £4,313 and a maximum payment of £5,436 per annum pro rata).

This MHST team lead post is designed to support the clinical development and delivery of the Mental Health Support Teams (MHSTs) in B&D. We are looking to recruit an applicant with expertise in the delivery of CBT or psychological talking therapies to children and young people (CYP ) and their families to manage anxiety, low mood, and behavioural problems. Experience in delivering clinical and management supervision and experience conducting clinical audits and evaluating research data is highly desirable to inform the delivery and development of clinical services.

The post holder will be responsible for supporting and overseeing the delivery of evidence-based interventions in schools/colleges and providing supervision to members of the senior clinical team in Barking and Dagenham. The post holder will be responsible for developing the MHSTs to facilitate wider service transformation within the local child mental health system - this will be in conjunction with service leads and managers. The aim is to foster the integration of clinical and educational principles to support CYP with mental health concerns and develop pathways that encourage a positive needs-based approach to accessing mental health provision for CYP.

The post holder would be expected to work closely with the current MHST service and clinical lead in Barking and Dagenham as well as the key stakeholders, such as the educational leads, local authority, and clinical leads within NELFT. They would also be expected to contribute to the training opportunities available for more junior members of staff to support their development. For Clinical Psychology applicants the supervision of Assistant Psychologists and DClinPsy Trainees would form part of this role, as part of increasing access to psychological therapies for CYP and supporting psychological workforce development.

Teaching, Training and Supervision

Support senior staff in the co-delivery of training sessions. This will include attendance at practice skills sessions, involvement in formative feedback sessions with teaching staff, and co-production of elements of the curriculum.
