**Description**

Working alongside a carefully selected supply chain, this contractor construction specialist offers far more than the manufacture and supply of steel structures. Their scope of works can include engineered timber, tensile fabric, structural glazing and featurelighting. This allows us this contractor to offer a comprehensive design and build solution to main contractors, direct clients and local authorities that makes us them truly stand out from our competition.

This position is office based and as a Drawing/Design Office Technical Manager you will coordinate and supervise the company's design and drawing office activities on a wide variety of projects.

**Duties**
- Being the primary interface with the client team (architect/engineer/contractor) on design related matters.
- The co-ordination of all Drawing Office activities to ensure that modelling and drawing is prepared in accordance with the company's procedures, the contract programme and within the project cost plan.
- Establishing and maintain a programme for the Drawing Office, including individual programmes for each project and the assessment of need for outside sub-let resources.
- Sub-letting design and Drawing Office work where this proves necessary, including obtaining quotations and placing orders or instructing the Commercial Department to place sub-contracts where necessary.
- Keeping Observations on and advising draughtsmen on details being produced to ensure that they are practical, economical, and in accordance with the relevant standards and good practice.
- The collating of all necessary information in readiness for the draughtsmen to efficiently model and detail at the beginning of a project and throughout its life.
- Take ownership of the RFI/TQ register for all projects, to ensure that all missing or

outstanding design information is received in a timely manner.
- Where required attend and participate in meetings and workshops with clients, engineers, architects and other construction specialists to discuss and agree specific project details.
- Organise and chair internal project specific design meetings/workshops, preparing agendas for such meetings.
- Liaise with other company departments in the coordination of design and drawing office activities, providing information on progress against contract programme.
- Allocation of work within the drawing office, identifying the requirement for additional resource.
- Ensuring that all work extra to contract is recorded on the appropriate form as and when it occurs. Upon completion of Drawing Office work, checking that all such extra work has been properly recorded.
- Liaison with other Heads of Departments to ensure smooth running of the project.
- Managing and monitoring projects through all stages from outset to Final Account.
- Chartered or (near Chartered) Structural Engineer.
- Excellent organisational, planning and time management skills.
- Logical thinking and creative problem-solving ability.
- Great attention to detail.
- Strong Good communication and negotiation skills.
- Understanding of budget control and commercial matters.
- The ability to lead a team but also be self-motivated and work well as an individual.
- A good understanding of business.
- Good technical understanding of relevant standards associated with structural steelwork, bridge works and other such structural design standards such as BS EN 1090-2, NSSS to name a few.
- Technical knowledge relevant to this industry, previous experience within the architectural/structural steelwork sector is a must.
- Good IT skills, knowledge of MS excel, word, project, the ability to work with Tekla and AutoCAD drawing packages as well as others.
