The **Education Partnership** team work across all phases to support our schools and colleges to realise the best education and life outcomes for our young people in Somerset.

We have an exciting opportunity to work with us on a fixed term contract until 31/12/2023.

**Here's what you can expect to be doing** Somerset County Council** have been approved to deliver European Social Funding to prevent and re-engage NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training) individuals as part of a three-year programme that will aim to support young people in their transition from compulsory education into a sustained and successful Post 16 destination.

The project offers the opportunity to develop new and innovative ways of engaging and supporting those at highest risk of NEET from Year 11, working with a range of institutions, partners and agencies to develop bespoke and effective engagement programmes.

We are looking for a flexible and innovative project delivery colleague to work closely with the Transition College Head, the service team and partner organisations to build relationships and work with a variety of professionals to ensure that service delivery is part of co-ordinated and cohesive services to young people and their families.

You will be responsible for:

- Providing advice and guidance to young people with known vulnerability issues at specific points of transition into their post 16 destination
- Engaging with achieving the strategic aims of the County to reduce NEETs (Not in Education, Employment or Training) and increase participation of the most vulnerable students across Somerset;
- Work with those referred and from Transition Panel meetings to advise and work with young people and parents/carers to find the most appropriate way in which they can address and resolve issues that prevent engagement;
- Liaising between home and institutions and providing a direct line of communication and link between parties. Developing specific plans, in agreement with the young person, family and appropriate organisations;
- Meeting with young people with the purpose of empowering them to make the best use of their own resources and decision making to make a sustained and positive engagement in Post 16 activity. This can be in the young person’s home or at an agreed location.
- Devising, implementing and monitoring the effectiveness of action plans and suggest amendments to provide further assistance to the young person, families, post 16 organisations, etc; enrolling those referred to SomersetWorks and ensuring that they are supported to engage in suitable and appropriate destinations.
- Liaising with other agencies to enable access to a wide range of services and opportunities that will support sustained engagement;
- Designing and delivering classes and support sessions as appropriate.

**A few things about you**
You will
- have experience of supporting vulnerable young people in their transition to post 16 education, employment or training.
- have experience of working in a school or college on post 16 transition activities.
- have experience of working with schools, colleges and various agencies to support and deliver transition activities.
- be prepared to travel across the county where required, meeting young people and their parents in their own homes.
- have the motivation to work with children, especially the most vulnerable.
- have the ability to motivate and mentor students and show how empathy to their learner journey and circumstances.
- have the ability to work effectively within a team and across institutions and complete tasks in a timely manner.
- be flexible, innovative and forward thinking.

**Additional information**
The salary for the role is £24,496 to £27,852 per annum.

From 1 April 2023 the County and District councils in Somerset will be replaced by a new single unitary authority - Somerset Council. It’s a genuinely exciting time to join us as we work together with the four district councils to deliver the new council for Somerset.
