**Job summary**:
The Post Office is a key national asset at the heart of communities across the country. As the sole shareholder for the Post Office, the Department for Business and Trade is responsible for setting the strategic direction for the company while allowing it the freedom to operate as a commercial business. This is a priority area for Ministers that attracts strong interest and attention across Government and Parliament, as well as from the media and wider public.

The Post Office Policy Team’s work is high-profile, varied and stimulating. We work closely with a range of internal and external stakeholders which include UK Government Investments, Ministers and their private offices, other Government Departments, Post Office and the wider community.

This is an exciting time to join the team. The post holder will lead interesting, challenging and important work, helping to shape the Government's policy direction for the Post Office. You'll make sure that Post Office supports other key priorities for Government, such as financial inclusion and access to cash. You will be responsible for helping to ensure that the business delivers value for the taxpayer and fulfils its social purpose.

**Job description**:

- You will take a lead for relationship management of key external stakeholders including trade bodies and consumer advocacy bodies.
- You will take a lead for relationship management of key Government stakeholders, including policy teams in HM Treasury.
- You will establish positive relationships with teams across Post Office Ltd and be confident in engaging with senior individuals at the company.
- You will lead on the delivery of high-quality briefing and communications, ensuring our Ministers have accurate and concise information for parliamentary activity and stakeholder engagement.
- You will take a lead on handling Government’s response to topical issues affecting the company, engaging with legal, comms, finance colleagues where necessary, involving seniors at the right time and ensuring Ministers are well-briefed.
- You will take a lead on handling the team’s delivery of Ministerial correspondence, working in close collaboration with the briefing hub to deliver high-quality work to deadline.

**Essential Criteria**
- Good relationship building skills and experience of working closely with a wide range of teams across Government.
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills, with a strong ability to communicate complex information concisely.
- Proven ability to deliver consistently to tight timescales.
- Proactive approach and have the ability to think creatively.
- Ability to exercise professional curiosity rather than accept things at face value.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities, able to work independently to analyse situations and provide handling advice.
