Job description

As a Casual Sport and Physical Activity Officer, you will work with the Leisure Contract Manager, to drive up standards and develop key partnerships to ensure the needs of the town are met. You will assist in developing, managing, and administrating the Council’s leisure contract, ensuring both contractual and statutory compliance.

**About the role**
A flexible approach to working hours and working location is a must for this role. Working hours will vary according to the needs of the service.

Reading Borough Council is currently transforming its leisure offer. We are creating a range of modern and state of the art facilities, including, a new flagship leisure centre at Rivermead in addition to the recently refurbished Palmer Park Sports Stadium.

Refurbishment works at South Reading Leisure Centre and Meadway Sports Centre are due to commence this summer. In total, this equates to over a £40m investment over three years into this high-profile transformational project.

This significant investment into facilities is part of a new 25-year contract with Greenwich Leisure Ltd, signed in July 2021. You will play a key part in the Active Reading team where you will assist in developing the leisure partnership, ensuring the service grows to meet the needs of Reading’s communities, as well as delivering high quality sports facilities with the objective being on increasing participation in physical activity.

Through the contract we will achieve excellent results including continuous improvement in areas of customer satisfaction and the delivery of corporate priorities. This includes increasing rates of participation in physical activity and provision of services to vulnerable groups.

In addition, you will inspect Council owned outdoor sports facilities and buildings, monitoring their quality, condition, compliance with health and safety regulations, and governing body standards. You will be responsible for organising remedial works.

As part of the Active Reading team, you will deliver projects and initiatives to increase participation in physical activity, health schemes and use of recreational facilities.

**Key areas of responsibilities include.**
- Monitoring the performance of our leisure operator.
- Monitoring the quality of leisure services and facilities provided.
- Collating and sharing data with colleagues and key partners.
- Forging strong working partnerships with colleagues, partners, and customers.
- Budget management.
- Developing and implementing initiatives to increase participation in physical activity.
- Administering and developing our social media content.
- Supervising contractors and coaches.
- Identifying funding opportunities or resources to support service delivery.

**About you**

You will play a fundamental role in shaping the towns leisure facilities and services into the future, ensuring that our community have every opportunity to increase their physical activity levels.

You will be proactive, determined, and positive. You will lead on delivering the best possible leisure facilities and activities for the community. With a high degree of organisational and interpersonal skills, you will negotiate agreed plans and objectives with partners.

You will need a track record of successful leisure facility management or health and physical activity services. This role will include monitoring service standards, requiring a knowledge of relevant.

You must have a full driving licence and access to your own vehicle.
