London, United Kingdom Ealing Council Full time

Job description

**Post **1**: Permanent post (0.6 WTE)**:
**Post 2: Fixed-term post for 20 months (0.7 WTE)**:
Ealing is a highly diverse and vibrant borough in the west of London. Home to around 370,000 people, it is the third largest borough by population in London and is an exciting, diverse and challenging place to live and work.

**Post 1 (permanent - 0.6WTE)**

The post will provide Consultant leadership on substance misuse, mental health and older people. There are exciting areas of local innovation and partnership working within these areas, with scope to further develop our systems leadership role and drive changes. Positive progress is being made on dual diagnosis, outreach work with voluntary partners for vulnerable groups and co-designing a suicide action plan with people with lived experience and with community, voluntary and faith sector partners. This post will line manage two Public Health Principals.

**Post 2 (fixed-term for 20 months - 0.7WTE)**

The post will lead on helping to drive delivery of the Health and Wellbeing Strategy and to oversee and drive the Borough-Based Partnership inequalities priorities, including Inclusion Health. This role will oversee the BBP Population Health and Inequalities programme year on year, ensuring the funding is targeted and has a positive impact on improving outcomes for the residents of Ealing. The BBP inequalities priorities will help deliver the Health & Wellbeing Strategy as well as the demands from the Race Equality Commission. The role will also support any engagement with the Citizens’ Tribunal health sub-group. There may be an opportunity for line management of one post.

Your collegiate style and high-quality advice will be respected by internal and external partners, as will your ability to work closely across a wide range of council departments, across the local borough-based partnership, with voluntary, community and faith sectors, and with community members themselves.

The roles offer a great learning opportunity for anyone wanting to work in a council Public Health department in the longer term, or equally for anyone interested in a different type of Public Health career but looking to get a good understanding of how Public Health works in a council and across a local Borough-Based Partnership. The team has a strong learning ethos and provides a very supportive environment and an opportunity to support wider team development.

There has never been a better time to join the team at Ealing.
- The Council Plan has a strong focus on tackling inequalities, supporting healthy lives and engaging with our communities.
- The Health & Wellbeing Strategy 2023-28 was recently launched, with a clear focus on reducing inequalities and improving the building blocks of health.
- Ealing Council has just been awarded £5m of funding from NIHR to establish a Health Determinants Research Collaboration, working in partnership with our communities and academic partners.
- There are strong relationships across the Council, especially following extensive joint work throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
- There are exciting opportunities within the Borough-Based Partnership, with very positive relationships and emerging structures for joint working.

By joining Ealing, you will be part of a respected, innovative and diverse London borough with a strong reputation for its commitment to health and wellbeing. Public Health sits at the forefront of our early intervention and prevention work and so we are looking for Consultants who enjoy building strong relationships with partners and embrace the opportunities of working within a Council setting.

The location for these roles is Perceval House in central Ealing. Currently, the majority of staff are hybrid working, with office working strongly encouraged for at least 2 days a week (this may change depending on the needs of the department).

Flexible working is considered for all roles in the Public Health team.

Interview date: Thursday 21 March 2024
