London, United Kingdom London Borough of Barking and Dagenham Full time

**About this job**:
Are you a skilled health protection professional? Do you want to be a part of shaping health partnerships, policies and strategies to improve health and wellbeing, and reduce inequalities in Barking and Dagenham? Do you want to support local care homes, schools and other local organisations with their health protection needs?

This is an exciting opportunity for someone that wants to make a real difference to our local communities. Barking and Dagenham has some big public health challenges, including the worst childhood obesity in London and lower life expectancy than the England average. We are one of the 20% most deprived boroughs in England and about 22.5% of our children live in low-income families. However, it is also a borough of great change - there is so much going on in Barking and Dagenham, even Hollywood wants to be part of it Coming years will see the addition of film studios and city markets to our industries, and many new residents joining us in our new developments (such as our Healthy New Town - Barking Riverside). These will add to the many assets that our borough already has, and you can help us make sure they help the health of our residents to flourish

Working in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the key deliverables of the Department, responsible for providing support as required across a range of public health projects and initiatives, including our response to COVID-19. This role will provide Public Health operational delivery of Health Protection and Emergency Planning responsibilities, including Covid-19 testing and vaccination responsibilities, advice and guidance to care homes, schools and other local organisations, translation of national plans and guidance in local plans and protocols, and implementation of plans in emergency situations. It will help deliver public health related aspects of emergency planning and resilience, supporting the Director of Public Health to deliver on emergency planning and assurance activities. This will include epidemic and pandemic planning, winter (cold weather) and heat wave planning, humanitarian response and death management, ensuring plans are up-to-date and in alignment with national and local plans.

**Special requirements for this post**:
A degree level qualification or equivalent experience is essential in this role, in addition to evidence of relevant CPD in Health Protection. You will also need experience of delivering in a health protection role within a public health team or setting.
