**PURPOSE**

The Special Education Needs Coordinator (SENCO) is responsible for the day to day operation of the setting’s Special Educational Needs or Inclusion Policy to ensure that children with Special Educational Needs are fully included.

**Accountable to**:
Debi Capper - Head of School

**The SENCO has responsibility for**:

- ensuring liaison with parents and other professionals in respect of children with special educational needs (SEN)
- advising and supporting other practitioners in the setting
- ensuring that Individual Education Plans are in place
- ensuring that relevant background information about individual children with special educational needs is collected, recorded and updated
- To support the Head of School to ensure all placements are appropriate and in line with Educ8’s admissions and SEND policy for learners with special educational needs.
- To work with classroom teachers, the school leadership team, parents and relevant external agencies to develop, implement and monitor individual support/learning plans
- To build rapports with the pupils to set personalised education, health and care (EHC) plans, which include social and academic targets
- To develop learning resources to help with pupils' development, including sensory and visual to improve fine motor skills
- To support teachers to develop and implement effective teaching and behaviour management approaches in the classroom
- To provide advice and training to classroom teachers on supporting pupils with SEN and offer further guidance if needed
- To keep a profile of Learners with special educational needs.
- To observe and support Learners as appropriate on the special educational needs profile.
- To support and advise Key Workers, Learning Support Assistants etc. as appropriate, in how to include Learner’s needs in the setting.
- To liaise with other professionals from outside services and external agencies e.g. Area SENCOs, Education Team Teachers /Educational Psychologists, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Speech and Language Therapists, etc.
- To arrange, organise and review support for individual learners.
- To keep Key Workers and Learning Support Assistants up to date with SEN. and inclusion issues and to encourage personal development through courses and INSET.
- To meet with parents regularly in order to maintain good relationships and to keep parents informed about their child’s progress.
- To respond to changes in legislation/practice from government and the Local Authority.
- To review individual children’s IEPs termly as appropriate.
- To review statements via annual and interim review meetings.
- To meet at least termly with the area SENCO.
- To deliver high quality GCSE English and GCSE maths Lessons.
