PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

To support the day-to-day running of either the Junior or Senior Summer School through providing administrative and pastoral support.

To work with the Summer School team to deliver an exceptional experience for international students attending the summer School showcasing what Taunton School has to offer.

HOURS OF WORK

Working hours are between 0830 and 1700 weekdays, plus the first Sunday of each Summer School between 0900 and 1730.

Please note there may be times where you are asked to provide support outside of your scheduled working hours.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

The Summer School Assistant is responsible for providing administrative and day-to-day support for the Summer School Director, Co-Ordinator, Academic Manager and Pastoral Lead. You should have:

- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

- A friendly and approachable manner.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible to: Summer School management team
- Support the Pastoral Lead and Academic Manager by keeping lists up to dates, creating registers after testing, supporting staff, and helping to create attractive noticeboards and clear lines of communication.
- Complete routine register checks to ensure all students are accounted for in lessons throughout the day. Liaise with the Academic Manager and Matron to ensure all students are in the correct lessons.
- Ensure that weekly/daily certificates are produced to agreed deadlines in conjunction with the Academic Manager.
- Support the Academic Manager to ensure that all teaching resources are accounted for at the end of the course and that the staff room and student common rooms are left in good order.
- Ensure noticeboards are up-to-date and teaching resources are appropriately organized and available on a daily basis.
- Act as the day Fire Chief and liaise with the Academic Manager to organize the weekday day fire drill on every course.
- Ensure fire registers are up to date and easily accessible.
- Liaise with the Summer School Co-ordinator and Administrative Assistant to ensure that all communication with parents, guardians and/or agents is appropriate and timely.
- Liaise with the Summer School Co-ordinator and Pastoral Leads to ensure trip buckets are prepared and resources are ready for any afternoon/evening activities.
- Collate and upload all photos of students on the courses. Send to marketing and home to parents on a regular basis.
- Attend the daily hand over meetings to ensure a smooth transition of information from the academic to pastoral team.
- Liaise with site services and the transport teams as required.
- In conjunction with the Matron, coordinate the appropriate medical provision for students during the day. Be second in charge of sickbay when matron is not available.
- Be present and assist the Matron/Students with daily break and lunch duty.
- Insist that English is spoken in all public areas and encourage students to mix with people from different nationalities.
- Attend the Summer School induction session.
- Help ensure that all academic and pastoral resources are accounted for at the end of the course and that the boarding house and school are left in good order.
- Undertake such other tasks as the Summer School Director might reasonably request.
