**The Role**

We have a new exciting and varied role as a Senior Climate Specialist within our Global Sustainability function. You will play a pivotal role in providing expert support, business engagement and guidance to our global site network and functions to ensure delivery against our industry-leading Ambition Zero Carbon strategy.
This will include having a critical role in setting the standards, roadmaps, and associated targets for sites and functions to improve their energy efficiency, access renewable energy, proactively manage their greenhouse gas emissions across all three GHG Protocol scopes, and deliver on our verified science based targets for emissions reduction, net zero, and supplier engagement.
**Key Responsibilities**
- Support the implementation and maintenance of relevant standards, procedures and guidelines to support sites and business units in meeting their Ambition Zero Carbon targets.
- Support the internal Environmental Efficiency Network and business engagement opportunities across the network to communicate climate and GHG expectations, share performance data and best practice to maximise our environmental performance and stakeholder engagement.
- Act as technical specialist for GHG emissions and energy to help qualify and manage the risks and opportunities presented by natural resource reduction investment proposals.
- Support the business in its disclosure to key external indices such as RE100, EP100, EV100, CDP, TCFD and the Dow Jones Sustainability Index to help maintain AstraZeneca’s ambition to lead in sustainability.
- Work with internal business units to operationalise climate targets, developing roadmaps to deliver in the short, medium and long-term
- Support targeted engagement and benchmarking with external working groups
- Shape the development of climate-related content and case studies published externally together with the external verification and assurance of our climate data and progress against our targets.
- Provide benchmarking or research support as required for emerging sustainability issues or strategy development in the climate and energy area.
- Work with the Climate Resilience Lead to support sites on their climate resilience planning and associated climate risk management and mitigations.
- Presentation of Ambition Zero Carbon strategy updates to internal and external audiences, working with other environmental SMEs and the communications leads to create engaging and accessible materials for different levels of audience.
- In working to deliver goals actively demonstrate, role model, and reinforce AstraZeneca’s values and behaviours.
**Essential Skills & Experience**
- A comprehensive understanding of the theories and practice of managing all aspects of climate change and GHG emissions and appreciation of wider sustainability issues.
- Demonstrated leadership in a similar role coordinating climate and greenhouse gas related issues for a site, function or business.
- Experience of climate-related initiatives for business, including Science Based Targets Initiative and the Climate Group’s EP100, EV100, RE100 campaigns
- Experience of working with Environmental and Social Governance (ESG) metrics and disclosures through frameworks such as GHG Protocol, Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI), TCFD and CDP
- A degree in an environmental science, sustainability or an engineering discipline or equivalent
- Experience in a corporate environment for a large organisation
- Natural communicator with experience of interacting with a wide range of stakeholders, across discipline interfaces, different organisational cultures and with external collaborators
- An ability to interpret complex situations and information in order to provide strategic clarity and opportunity
- Experience of managing senior stakeholders across a multinational business
- Excellent data analytic skills with a proven track record in GHG emissions calculations, data collation, management, and visualisation
