**About the Role**:
As an Animal Welfare Officer, you will play a vital role in ensuring the well-being, safety, and health of animals through the administration of animal welfare legislation. This position involves a range of responsibilities, from advising on animal welfare matters to participating in the removal, collection, transportation, boarding, and rehoming of animals in the council's care.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Administer animal welfare legislation, provide advice on animal welfare matters, and promote animal well-being through education and publicity.
- Responsible for the removal, collection, transportation, boarding, and rehoming of animals in the council's care, including identifying minor ailments and arranging veterinary care when needed.
- Participate in the stray dog collection service, being available out of hours and in locations other than Islington.
- Assist in the maintenance, security, and cleaning of the Council’s Pound and equipment used by the service.
- Drive a Council vehicle.
- Receive and record payments.
- Work shifts and weekends as part of a rota to cover internal service demands or external contracts.

**Experience**:

- Experience in the animal welfare field.
- Good knowledge and understanding of best practice and current issues in animal welfare.
- Understanding of the legislation relating to animal welfare, licensing, and registration.

**Skills**:
4. Ability to work on your own initiative and as a team member.
- Good level of written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to handle animals and care for those who the council are responsible for.
- Ability to provide advice and support on animal welfare matters.
- Flexible approach to work, including willingness and ability to work evenings and weekends if required.

**Special Requirements of the Post**:

- This role will require you to obtain an_**Enhanced satisfactory clearance**_ from the Disclosure and Barring Service.
- Hold a_**full driving licence**_ appropriate to cover vehicles used by the service.
- Formal Stray dog experience is **essential**
