**Job Title**: Support Worker/Key worker

**Reporting to**: Unit Manager

**Job Purpose**: To work as part of an experienced staff team in developing young people for living independently and to offer a good level of support to young people in care. To offer encouragement in the development of young people by providing additional support for young people with specific needs who display complex/challenging behaviour.

Willoughby Place is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of Children and Young People and all staff working with these individuals are expected to share a commitment to this. You will be expected to report any concerns relating to the safeguarding of children and/or young people in accordance with agreed procedures.

Willoughby Place is a provision based in North and SE London but looking to expand and is a unique semi-independent provider for young people aged 16+ which offers direct support to vulnerable young people. Willoughby Place’s main aim is to provide a safe homely environment that enables young people the opportunity to gain structure and personal independence.

We offer a range of facilities that will promote independent living, whilst providing excellent well trained staff to ensure that engagement with challenging young people is still provided. Our focus is to build young people's self-worth; self-worth will empower young people to be valued members of society, which will help integrate them into the community.

Tackling this issue will be a long term investment in the promotion of their emotional and psychological well-being. Working alongside young people to support their needs and educating them to make better informed decisions is the primary goal for Willoughby Place.

We strive to make a positive impact on the lives of the service user's we work with, taking pride in the outcomes we achieve, while working in partnership with the young people, staff team, local agencies and other professionals.

Encouraging our young people to have confidence in their abilities, have a new perspective about their future, set realistic goals and achieve these ambitions with our constant 24/7 support, focusing on prevention rather than cure strategies. You will need to produce regular care plans, monthly reports and key work sessions. All are essential tools used by staff to encourage engagement and self-development.

This post is based in a semi-independent residential unit and you will be working young people within the placements and support them to attend appointments in the local area.

Hours vary based upon the needs of the young people and current staff team. We are looking for support workers who will also do key work sessions with the young people.

You must have a Level 3 working with young people or equivalent and the Safeguarding level 2.

You must have a minimum of 2 years experience working in a residential setting.

**Key Tasks as a Key Worker/Support Worker**
- Daily key work sessions and reports on young people's progress
- Attend staff meetings and hold meetings with young people and other

professionals
- Plan, organise and deliver relevant and meaningful activities/

workshops for service users in and outside of unit
- Produce and record regular health and safety checks including room

searches and fire checks
- Cleaning tasks (Garden, Communal areas, Windows, Bathroom, Stairs,

and Kitchen etc.)
- Produce and record regular maintenance checks
- Complete a portfolio of independence for young people
- Engage in daily key work sessions with all young people - Informal

and formal key work sessions should be delivered
- Complete daily logs on every shift
- Distribute and keep a record of weekly living allowances for young

people in the home
- Complete risk assessments and incident reports
- When necessary attend courts, hospitals, police stations etc.
- Work with service users to engage in EET options (Education,

Employment or Training)
- Work with young people to discover benefits advice
- Work towards young people securing important documents (ID such as

Driving license, passport etc.)
- Create a time table in which service users should adhere to (create a

structured lifestyle)
- Record service users movements and activities throughout the day
- Support the young people through the challenges that they face
- Enforce house rules, resolve conflict and have the ability to identify

potential risks
- To work with young people who are at risk due to offending, self-harm

or anti-social behaviour.
- To uphold and implement policies and procedures of the Company

including customer care and health and safety police
- To undertake continuing professional development (CPD) and to be

aware of new developments, legislation, initiatives, guidelines, policies

and procedures, and to ensure the team are informed appropriately
