**Job Title - Medical Secretary**
**Pay Rate - £12.86**

**Location - St Albans City Hospital, Waverley Road. St Albans, AL3 5PN**
**Ward - Trauma & Othopaedic**

**Working Pattern - Mon - fri 8-4pm**

**Duration - 2months from start date.**

**System knowledge - Cerner, MS words, Excel and Outlook (Desirable)**
- To act as personal secretary to one or more of the Consultants, liaising on a day to day basis and prioritising own work load.
- To schedule follow up appointments for patients and rearrange appointments when required using the Patient Administration System.
- Audio typing of clinic letters and admin letters on Cerner Powerchart from audio tape transcriber or dictation or written copy as required. Letters can sometimes contain distressing circumstances. Letters are typed in priority and date order.
- To arrange for cancellation of Consultants' clinics for annual leave, study leave etc. To rearrange appointments with patients via telephone/letter.
- To liaise with the Support Secretary/Admissions Waiting List Coordinator with regard to making new outpatient/TCI appointments.
- To assist other secretaries in the department with workload when required.
- Liaise with Consultants and other clinical staff as required.
- Provide cover for colleagues during annual leave, sickness and busy periods.
- To deal sympathetically and confidentially, via telephone enquires or face to face with patients, GPs, medical staff, nursing staff and other hospital staff.
- Update patient information when necessary on relevant platforms.
- To escalate any urgent problems to a manager within a reasonable time frame to avoid issues getting out of control.
- To undertake any other reasonable administrative duties as required.
