**About the team**
Integrated Services for Learning (ISL) is a multi-disciplinary service comprising of SEND Specialist Advice and Support services, Access & Inclusion Services, Educational Psychologists and Statutory services.

A key function of ISL SEND Specialist Advice and Support (SEND SAS) is to ensure that the educational and developmental progress of children and young people (0-25), with a range of SEND, is met in line with the Hertfordshire Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) Strategy and HCC strategic objectives.

We have an opportunity within the Speech, Language, Communication and Autism Team for an Early Years Inclusion Specialist to provide support, advice and guidance to families, settings and schools for children with SEND.

**About the role**
The purpose of this role is to enhance and support Private, Voluntary and Independent (PVI) and maintained settings, enabling them to meet the needs of children age 0-7 who have Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). You will provide information and support to parents, carers and families and offer individual support to children, working in partnership with the Specialist Advisory Teacher. You will develop knowledge and expertise in the specialist area of speech, language and communication.

To support practitioners and carers working in PVI and maintained Nursery and Reception settings in the successful inclusion of children 0-7 with SEND by:

- Ensuring all members of staff involved with the child have a clear understanding of the child’s needs and his / her individual next steps
- Promoting the principles of best practice for early years inclusion
- Advising on appropriate resources, materials and equipment
- Modelling approaches, strategies and the use of resources to staff in settings
- Implementing interventions in partnership with the Specialist Advisory Teacher
- Supporting the setting in implementing strategies to meet individual targets and outcomes identified through external advice
- Empowering and engaging staff to provide targeted support for individual children
- Advising the setting on how to adapt their setting to become an enabling environment to best meet the needs of individual children with SEND
- Keeping records on children’s progress and reporting the impact of interventions to share with the wider team
- Working collaboratively with staff, colleagues and families to support effective transitions from home and between settings
- Contributing to review meetings for individual children
- Supporting settings to engage with integrated practice and early identification of needs e.g. Early Help Assessments
- Delivering relevant training and workshops for settings
- Using autonomy and initiative to deliver best practice
- Highlighting concerns regarding inclusive practice in settings with their line manager

To support parents, carers and families in meeting the needs of their children by:

- Conducting home visits when appropriate
- Providing information and signposting to other available support
- Modelling strategies and approaches to help parents and carers develop practical skills
- Working with colleagues to plan, organise and deliver selected activities and/or interventions at the EYSDC and/or other associated specialist groups such as Early Years Autism Support (EYAS)
- Delivering training and workshops for parents and carers

To use knowledge and expertise in an agreed specialist area of Early Years inclusion to support the professional development of colleagues by:

- Being a point of contact in relation to this specialism
- Developing a bank of resources and providing guidance for colleagues about how these can be used
- Conducting joint visits to home or setting to support colleagues as appropriate
- Keeping abreast of initiatives, training and developments in their specialist area and cascading to colleagues

**About you**
**Essential**:

- NVQ level 3 or above in a child development related discipline
- Experience of working with children who have a range of SEND in Early Years settings and with the families
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proficient in the use of technology e.g. laptop, iPad etc.
- Ability to work independently in settings, liaising with the Specialist Advisory Teacher
- Ability to work as part of a team and in collaboration with a range of partners including setting staff and other professionals
- Sound judgement and analytical ability in order to understand the needs of the child with SEND and the context of the setting in order to provide appropriate support
- Comprehensive knowledge of the SEN Code of Practice and key national initiatives
- Ability to travel independently to visit service users - access to a vehicle and current driving licence req
