We are looking for an enthusiastic and well-motivated Senior Research Fellow with exceptional organisation and communication skills to lead the promotion, screening, recruitment, assessment and follow-up of SINAPPS2 trial participants at ten sites across the UK.

The SINAPPS2 trial is a randomised double-blinded placebo controlled clinical trial of investigational medicinal products testing the efficacy and safety of immunotherapy (IVIG and rituximab) in people with acute psychosis and anti-neuronal membrane antibodies. The post would suit someone with some research experience in psychiatry who wishes to gain research experience in clinical trials.

The focus of this role is the day-to-day recruitment of the trial participants with severe mental health illness such as psychosis and support of research assistants in development of strategies of the trial promotion, screening, recruitment, assessments at sites across the UK. The post holder will collaborate with clinical and research teams and recruit patients with psychosis across the UK but it will be based in Oxford and regularly travel with possible overnight stay.

The focus of this role is the day-to-day recruitment of the trial participants with severe mental health illness such as psychosis and support of research assistants in development of strategies of the trial promotion, screening, recruitment, assessments at sites across the UK. If successful, you will work with the SINAPPS2 trial team of researchers, project manager and PI based in Oxford and research teams in NHS trusts across the UK. This will require working closely and collaboratively with a wide range of people, including the research and clinical staff from all levels across NHS mental health and acute hospital trusts. You will be working at the Warneford Hospital in Oxford and will be required to travel nationally with possible overnight stay on a regular basis. The SINAPPS2 trial is a randomised double-blinded placebo controlled clinical trial of investigational medicinal products testing the efficacy and safety of immunotherapy (IVIG and rituximab) in people with acute psychosis and anti-neuronal membrane antibodies.

The SINAPPS Research Group is a collaborative group conducting research into the immunological basis of psychosis and other mental illness. We are based at the Departmentsof Neuroimmunology and Psychiatry, and between Oxford and Cambridge, with collaborators across England, and internationally. The Oxford SINAPPS hub is led by Professor Belinda Lennox at the Department of Psychiatry. We lead the recruitment of patients from more than 40 NHS mental health trusts across England.

There are connected studies to SINAPPS2, which are studying the possible immunological basis of mental illness using a range of methods, such as lumbar punctures, MRI brain scans, EEG scans. This role will also support the recruitment of participants to these related studies in Oxford.

Research
- Support the coordination of research studies in collaboration with the clinical teams, research teams and R&D
- Proactively promote research and portfolio studies across participating NHS trusts and develop and foster links with various stakeholders in order to promote and facilitate recruitment of participants to research studies, including identifying eligible patients for studies
- Support study delivery by undertaking research activities outlined in approved study documents; facilitate the informed consent process as per legislation and the Mental Capacity Act, and develop and maintain skills, experience and competence in administering rating scales and conduct assessments with study participants
- Provide staff and participants with information about the purpose of studies, the rationale for their selection and the consequences of participating
- Ensure that participants have good support mechanisms before, during and following their participation in a research study
- Ensure that all data collected, stored and used is done so in compliance with relevant statutory instruments, national and local guidelines and regulations
- Adhere to Good Clinical Practice (ICH-GCP), Research Governance Framework, national and local practices and policies
- Supply data as required by the Project Manager and PI regarding the progress of research studies
