In the new post ofStrategic Communications Advisor, you’lllead major campaigns on council priorities, delivering excellent media relations, marketing, digitaland other communications disciplines. You’llact as a trusted advisor to theLeader, Executive and senior officers,working across different services to coordinate strategic narrativesand maintain grip of issues.

Reporting to the Head of External Communications and Campaigns, you’llbe a senior memberand manager inthe team,developing andinspiring staff to deliver campaign work.You’ll draw on and collaborate with our specialist internal, digital, creative and engagement teams to create brilliant contentand ensure your work is targeted and tested with the audiences it’s designed to reach.

You’ll come with proven experience of delivering first-class campaigns - whether you’re from a media, marketing, digital or public affairs background - and be an excellent writer and communicator yourself. You’ll know how to juggle competing priorities to tight deadlines, challenge internal dogma, and be used to managing the media. And crucially, you’ll be creative - understanding how to cut through the noise and get noticed, rather than rely on the same-old tactics.

Theaward-winningCommunications and Campaigns team is key to achieving the council’s ambitions - telling the story of its priorities,campaigning on behalf of residents and businesses, and supporting the transformation of services for the people who use them.

You'll join a refreshed team recently redesigned to reflect the council’s mission and changing priorities - with strategic communications and engagement at the heart of its work.

To plan, lead, deliver and evaluate major strategic communications campaigns that support the objectives set out in the council’s Strategic Plan, including marketing, media relations and digital communications.

To manage and motivate communications officers and allocate work to them appropriately, ensuring that it is effective, data-driven, targeted and culturally competent.

To offer strategic communications advice to Executive Leads, senior officers and service leads on allocated portfolio areas.

To develop and codesign strategic communications forward plans with services, ensuring their work and projects are presented to residents, businesses and stakeholders in a coordinated way that is connected to the council’s key mission and objectives.

To support the delivery of the wider communications service’s objectives, giving advice and support to colleagues on major campaigns.

To contribute content and ideas for council printed publications and digital channels, ensuring that content is tied to council objectives and priorities.

To work closely with the Media and Public Affairs Manager to identify and develop public affairs objectives in allocated portfolios, developing a good understanding of the policy goals of relevant services.

To answer media enquiries that come into the council in a timely fashion, and to effectively use the media to promote the council’s services, policies and objectives, in close collaboration with the Media and Public Affairs Manager.
