The Bank of England is the UK's central bank. Our mission is to deliver monetary and financial stability for the British people.

The Bank of England is a diverse organisation, made up of approximately 4,000 people - each committed to public service and dedicated to promoting the good of the people of the United Kingdom by maintaining monetary and financial stability.

The Markets Directorate promotes monetary and financial stability by leading the Bank's market operations, and by using our presence, expertise and influence in financial markets to inform and shape the Bank's policy decisions and priorities. The Markets Directorate includes 6 Divisions which are:
- Sterling Markets-
- Foreign Exchange-
- Market Intelligence-
- Financial Risk Management-
- Middle Office-
- Markets & Banking COO**Department Overview**

Markets, Banking, Payments and Resolution (MBP&R) Chief Operating Office (COO) Division is responsible for providing support services to maximise the effectiveness of day-to-day operations and strategic deliverables. Our 70 colleagues have a wide range of expertise given our diverse remit, split into three teams: Change Delivery (oversight of significant changes to Bank critical systems), Operational Risk (operational risk, anti-money laundering and compliance), and Business Planning (budget planning and control, resource planning and people-related processes and topics). The Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) Lead role is part of a small People Strategy team aligned to the Business Planning team.

The work we do and the businesses we support mean this is a very interesting Division, where we need to balance long-term analytical work with fast-paced operational deliverables. We are also passionate about diversity and inclusion and the MBP&R Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DE&I) Strategy is a key responsibility for this role.

The Bank aims to create an inclusive environment that attracts the best talent and enables everyone to fulfil their potential. We do this through a strategic approach to the development of people, skills and leadership - including explicit and deliberate interventions to develop Bank culture. This helps to ensure that we recruit, develop and retain the diverse talent that is needed to deliver our mission to promote the good of the people of the United Kingdom.

We are offering a 12-month fixed term contract for a D&I Lead to work in partnership with the MBP&R leadership teams and the People and Culture Directorate (particularly the Inclusion and Sustainability team) to drive, embed and ultimately achieve the Bank’s diversity and inclusion aims across MBP&R. They will seek to ensure that diversity and inclusion are at the heart of all people related activities and decisions in MBP&R - equipping business areas to expand diversity of thought, encourage fairness in all opportunities and enable all staff to fulfil their potential.

This role requires strong business-partnering skills - in particular, the confidence to challenge existing culture and ways of working. It also requires a balance of thought leadership and the ability to engage, empathise with and act upon a broad range of views and opinions beyond your own.

This is an exciting 12 month fixed term contract opportunity, and responsibilities are likely to include:

- Reporting to the ED sponsors for Diversity and Inclusion, help develop and embed an ambitious and creative MBP&R DE&I strategy for MBP&R (ensuring appropriate alignment with the wider Bank strategy)
- Work as part of the MBP&R DE&I Steering Group to take responsibility for the implementation of the MBP&R DE&I strategy, empowering members to lead workstreams to implement the strategy
- Establishing the analysis we need to undertake in order to better understand how inclusive we are today, what the blockers might be and how to measure success;
- Regularly presenting proposals, recommendations and outcomes to MBP&R senior management teams to drive progress against the strategy, working closely with them to gain consensus and initiate action;
- Supporting MBP&R directorates to achieve their targets towards our diversity goals, co-ordinating activities across directorates where appropriate to ensure maximum cost/benefit and consistency in approach;
- Regularly advising and engaging MBP&R colleagues in an inspiring and transparent way, bringing to life what good inclusion looks like;
The D&I Lead role will be part of a small People Strategy team which provides HR support, challenge and guidance to c.800 MBP&R staff with the aim of delivering sustainable organisational performance. This includes all aspects of the employee life cycle (attraction, recruitment, performance, development, retention,
