JOB DESCRIPTION - Education Support Worker

**Salary**: up to £21,415.68 depending on experience

Holidays: 28 days per annum (pro-rata)

Accountable to: Centre Manager

Hours: Full-time, part-time and casual

Job Purpose:

- To provide one to one and group support for young people through a process of support and mentoring
- To ensure all SEE students are supported and monitored
- To provide support to address the personal, social and educational needs of students who are underachieving, misbehaving, or in need of behaviour intervention
- To work as part of a team to ensure SEE students engage with their provision and make progress
- Provide ‘wrap around’ service for all young people, ensuring measures are put in place to overcome any barriers to engagement

Duties and Responsibilities:

- To provide support for young people on roll at SEE
- This will include daily transport of students and work in the community and in education settings, as required and ensure young people are provided with a healthy, nutritious lunch
- This to be done according to a pre-agreed plan working closely with SEE staff and within the line management structure. Programmes will be regularly reviewed and in partnership with named school staff, social workers, parents/carers and other professionals as appropriate.
- To manage poor behaviour or engagement in line with relevant SEE policies and procedures
- To be proactive arranging a wide variety of different projects for young people to engage with that enable them to make progress against their agreed outcomes
- To work proactively to develop accredited programmes/projects for young people to engage with
- To complete administrative tasks required to ensure young people's work meets the standards required for them to achieve accreditations
- To work with students, staff, outside agencies and parents to ensure that the school fully supports students who need help to overcome barriers to learning
- Adhere to SEE’s Safeguarding policy, ensuring safeguarding is always prioritised and concerns are reported appropriately
- Contribute to reports as and when instructed
- Attend relevant meetings as appropriate
- To liaise with parents / carers, named school teaching/school staff and external agencies in order to fully support the students attending SEE Provision
- Promote inclusive practices across the provision
- When assigned, to act as a key worker for SEE students
- To develop a knowledge of a range of learning support needs and to develop an understanding of the specific needs of the pupils to be supported
- Assist the management team (and other professionals as appropriate), in the development and planning of a suitable programme of support for pupils
- To provide the necessary pastoral care to enable children to feel secure and happy
- To supervise and provide particular support for pupils, ensuring their safety and access to learning activities, taking into account the learning support involved, to aid the pupils to learn as effectively as possible both in group situations and on their own
- To develop constructive relationships and communicate with all staff, other agencies/professionals and parents/carers
- To comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health and safety, security, confidentiality and data protection, equal opportunities, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person
- To participate in training and other learning activities and performance development as required
- To recognise own strengths and areas of expertise and use these to advise and support others
- To work flexibly across a number of different locations
- Any other duties commensurate with the grade and falling within the scope of the post as requested by management.

**Person Specification**

**Experience**

Experience working with disaffected young people (minimum of 3 years)

Safeguarding experience and awareness of professional boundaries when working with young people

Experience of leading and activities

Experience of working within a team and prioritising work

**Educational / Vocational Qualifications**

GCSE or equivalent literacy and numeracy

A professional Youth Work qualification

**Skills**

Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, relationship building, negotiation and interpersonal skills

Ability to relate to young people from all backgrounds

Ability to work as a team member

Self-motivated and able to work to multiple deadlines, remaining calm under pressure

Ability to be non-judgemental and open-minded

Ability to care about and be sensitive to individuals and the community

Awareness of current issues relating to young people
