Tenancy Sustainment Officer

Weymouth, United Kingdom Aster Group Full time

Have you been looking for a community based role where you can really make a difference? Are you able to motivate people to take steps to help themselves?

Do you have good negotiating skills together with knowledge of housing management?

If so, keep reading.

We are looking to recruit housing professionals to join our exciting, newly established, Tenancy Support Service. The role will predominately cover Weymouth and Portland, however the region includes Wareham, Swanage and Dorchester plus other small towns.

As a Tenancy Sustainment Officer you will provide advice and housing-related support to customers with a wide range of needs that enables them to sustain their tenancies, whilst preventing poverty and social exclusion and improving life chances and promoting self-reliance.

This is a varied role that will require you to get ‘stuck in’ offering practical, side by side, support in the home, modelling new skills in order for the customer to build their growth and development. This role will be as unique as our customers are with no two days being the same

Your tasks will include
- Providing support and advice to customers in order for them to sustain a tenancy. This will include developing personal contact with customers to maximise engagement.
- Establishing constructive relationships of trust with customers, encouraging and supporting them to pursue realistic options.
- Supporting multi-agency working by sharing information and representing the business at professional meetings.
- Managing mixed caseloads including immediate short term advice and longer-term case management.
- Being an advocate for customers with statutory and voluntary agencies, signposting to other support services as required.
- Keeping records up to date and accurate, ensuring they are relevant and comply with Data Protection legislation, policy and procedure.

**About you**:
You’ll be someone who can be sensitive to difficult situations whilst having the ability to negotiate and investigate individual customers situations. There will be occasions when you may need to provide challenging advice to customers in stressful circumstances.

You will be able to demonstrate your ability to learn new skills and legislation and work with customers with complex needs and issues. A working knowledge of current housing issues, housing law, welfare rights and related legislation will support your role every day.

You’ll be computer literate, and have a flexible, organised approach to your work, enabling you to cope with a challenging and varied case load.

You will be able to work in partnership with other agencies to assist and support our customers. The successful applicants will need to maintain and develop professional relationships with colleagues and a wide range of agencies.

As the role will include extensive travel, access to a vehicle and a full UK driving license is required. Ideally you will also live in or close to the communities that the role will work within.

**What’s in it for me**

We invest in our colleagues because we know if they have a better day at work, the service our customers receive will be better. The Aster Offer is our offer to our colleagues to ensure they have a great day at work and includes things like:

- Flexible working - whilst some roles need to be carried out in a specific place at a specific time, where possible we encourage our colleagues to work to their own schedule at a location that suits them, their team and our business’ needs
- A focus on colleague wellbeing - workshops, an employee assistance programme offering counselling and support, mental health training and a health cash plan
- We invest in colleagues’ careers and development through our leader and colleague development frameworks
- Defined Contribution Pension and attached life assurance
- Volunteering hours available to all colleagues to enable them to give back
- Savings at cinemas, gyms, holidays, days out, various shops and eateries and lots more
- Enhanced leave
- We celebrate colleagues who go above and beyond with a range of personalised recognition initiatives, and monthly and annual awards.

**Ready to apply?**

To apply, please use information provided in the advert and role profile to let us know why you’d be good for the job. Please submit a copy of your up-to-date CV along with a supporting statement.

We create an inclusive workplace that promotes and values diversity and believe that creating an environment where everyone, from any background, can do their best work is the right thing to do.
