Based from any of our Capital hubs in Coventry, Derby or Shrewsbury, the Hydraulics Technical Lead will sit within our Design Capability Department of our Capital Delivery and Design business. This role will be accountable for technical capability regarding Hydraulics Engineering. **You will be responsible for shaping our way forward into AMP8 and beyond.**

**EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW**

As the Hydraulics Technical Lead for the Capital Design Business, this role will be the technical point of contact a range of hydraulic designs, including but not limited to:

- Free Surface Flow hydraulic design for water / wastewater treatment works
- Pressurised pump systems and designing rising mains and pumping stations
- Transient surge systems, designing surge suppression systems
- CFD modelling and computational fluid dynamics

To be successful in this role, applicants should have practical experience in the design of hydraulics systems and be able to think on their feet and work within a large matrix organisation. Applicants should have experience of designing and implementing design standards that strike a balance between industry best practise and affordability. It is also expected that applicants should have a sound knowledge of contract and project management. An expert in a variety of industry recognised software packages, the successful applicant will use their technical and leadership skills to influence the direction of travel, and explore opportunities to adopt new techniques and technologies, setting, raising and maintaining standards within our capital design business.

**WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THE ROLE**

As well as brining significant technical hydraulics knowledge to this role, the successful applicant will also have:

- Experience in leading teams with team members of varying experience levels from Apprentice and Graduate through to Principal and Senior Principal level engineers
- The ability to calculate from first principals as well as be an expert in commonly used water industry software
- Excellent proven problem solving skills and have a flexible approach being able to think laterally and work across a matrix organisation
- Have the ability to work collaboratively with various other design discipline engineers on projects and be a decision maker, driving projects forward and leading critical decisions
- Have a good understanding of the CDM regs as well as wider UK based health and safety legislation
- A proven track record in hydraulic design on a range of different types of multi-million-pound projects
- A professional chartership with one of the following institutes: CIWEM, IChemE, IMechE, ICE
